Anyone using a late model tacoma for your tow vehicle and if you are what size boat are you towing.

My Buddy tows a 22ft SH/F250 with a Tacoma Ex-Cab 4X4 with the 3.4L V6 and the automatic and tow package. I wouldn't want to tow it more than 20-30 miles with that rig because in hot weather it will overheat the tranny and turn the check engine light on. It will do about 60-62MPH matted and doesn't like to tow over 50MPH.

Yeah, not impressed with the Yukon's either. Gear ratios are wrong for towing any serious load.

I have a 2005 4 door tacoma with the 4.0 L in it and pull my buddies old 22 CC with it! Not problems at all.

4.0 v6 DC 4x4 LB tows best, longer wheelbase then other tacomas. I tow a 22 whaler no problem, but I wouldn't want to go much bigger due wind resistance

I had a '06 with the 4.0 liter with 6 speed manual and towed a Searay 230 Sundancer. The weigth of the boat and trailer were about 6300lbs which is right at the tow limit. I towed it from Calgary to Vancouver a few times which crosses over 3 major mountain ranges. On a hill that is a 8.5% grade for almost 20 km the truck made it with no overheat issues at all. I could only maintain about 70 km/hr on some sections which was alot better than a friends early 2000's F-150 with a 5.4 and a lighter boat.
After towing that a couple of times I decided to upgarde to a Tundra which made things so much easier that I did the only logical thing, I bought a bigger boat. :)

I have a 20ft Bayliner that I'm hoping I can tow with my 2005 4x2 PreRunner (single cab). Thinking about adding a transmission cooler.

Any thoughts?
