Jim - I want to replace my the Garmin 478 that I use in my tender with a larger screen - but have limited real estate.

I've been considering the Garmin 640 with one of a couple of alternative mounts which should fit well. From what I've read, the unit is highly regarded and reliable. I need Bahamas cartography, which is available for the 640.

But the 640 is also nearly four years old...which seems to be about the extent of Garmin's product cycle on such products. Even if discontinued tomorrow it would be a fine unit for years to come, of course.

Any rumblings about a replacement in the pipeline? Any comments on the unit generally?

Thanks.

Richard

That unit is very nice. No grumblings at all about it. It has not been incredibly popular probably due to filling a niche that is small. I really have not seen anything in the pipeline to replace it. I put it in the same lineage as the 5000 series Garmin units which are around for at least another year.
