Went to my first barge party last July and had a great time. Anybody else going this summer?

Never heard of it. I dock on East Harbor near Marblehead. Can you give me some info?

http://sanduskybaybargeparty.com.

Basically they pull a barge up on the sandbar across from cedar point and a TON of boats raft up around it. Theres live music and a bikini contest. There is two events, one in June and one in July. People either stay on their boats and watch, or you can walk up to the barge and watch the show. It gets pretty crazy though.

Weather kept us out in 2010 but heard that it cleared and was a great time. Last year was EPIC!! We'll be there in 2012..just need to find a boat to be there on!! hahhaa

I never thought buying a boat would be so difficult!!

I'd go but I'm afraid at my age, I'd probably have a heart attack. In my younger days it would be a hard attack, LOL

The barge party is always a good time. It seems to get bigger and better every year.

You wont regret it! I already took vacation to go to the July party, still trying to figure something out for June.

I just moved back to the area and went to the Barge Party for the first time in June. My wife and I had a blast as did our son who is in college. (Where the heck was this barge party when I WAS in College?) DANG

They had a few problems with LE at the last party which seems to be a bit trumped up if you ask me. None the less, I haven't heard anything else lately about the status of the July party. Sure hoping it's still on as we're planning on going early.

It's actually at the sand bar off Bay Point there Russ; wear sunglasses, dark ones so people can't tell what you are looking at......then post pictures and keep an eye on my son; quite certain he'll be there as well

Im pretty sure that July is still on. June was better this year with the warm weather. Be careful coming over to that area, we got into some VERY shallow water over by the large red concrete channel marker. Ive heard the sandbar shifts every year, and it isnt marked. Somebody else was getting towed out and i saw several boats get stuck. Take the marked channel all the way into the bay and then make a wide loop around to the party to be on the safe side.

You can avoid the markers by coming through Bay Point Marina and then go under the Johnsons Island Bridge to the bay side of the sand bar

Yep, I go through Bay Point all the time just watch your depth. There are still some very shallow area's through that area as well, sometimes around 2-3 feet.

Just read that the Barge Party is on for next weekend.

First, going under the Johnsons Island Bridge is the wrong direction from if you come through Bay Point as you described. If you go through bay point then through the Johnsons Island causeway, you are going the wrong way to get to the barge party. If you plan on going to the party you can go thorugh Bay Point, once through Bay Point, you will see the tower for the coal dock. You can head towards (south) that and the party will be on you east side (port side).
I guess you could go under the johnsons bridge then west and south then east around the island but unless you have a pretty good draft there is no reason.
I for one will not be anywhere near that pool of piss and trash. But hey you guys have fun!! I will be enjoying the islands away from the punky college kids.

Ha! That's usually my perspective on these too. This is day #1 of 6 days cruising Catawba and the islands (please let the weather forecast improve!!!).

I promise; we will be at least 100 yards outside the concentrated urine pool and will be reclining in deck chairs listening to the bands and while the children (not mine) stand in the vomitorium of mud and sand. I expect to be at Portside about 10:00 pm; early enough to avoid the bumper boat scene sure to ensue at full dark.

I live right in Sandusky and haven't been to a Barge Party in 3-4 years; when they first started putting it on, it was a laid back blast. For the past few years, it's turned into a clusterfunk full of hot tempered drunks, pissed off cops, and amateurs that should stay on land. You can't even get in close and have a chance at getting out before it's all over, plus your boat turns into a trash can for beer cans. I grew up going to the sand bar, but the shine has worn off; I would rather go to East Harbor or over to the North side of Kellys for a relaxing beach & swim day....cleaner water and less trash left behind. My girlfriend had never been to one, so we dropped my Robalo in at the city ramps for the one back in June, headed over early, idled thru for 5min before saying heck no and headed to Put in Bay for the day instead.
