Connecting my trailer to the hitch ball takes alot of downward pressure before the ball pops into the coupler. So I thought maybe my hitch ball had gotten deformed, so I bought one of the greasless balls with some sort of teflon coating on the top half of the ball. Well the new ball proved even tighter, so I went back with the old ball. This is what the trailer manual says about the coupler I have. I have the A60...

"The A-60 & A-75 actuator coupler
will only accept 2” diameter balls. Make certain a 2” diameter ball of the correct load
rating is used. Balls must be within the limits of 1.970” - 2.000” diameter when measured
in all directions. Balls larger than 2.000” or out of round will not fit the coupler socket.
Balls smaller than 1.970” can cause shock loading and a sudden disconnection could
result at worse case"

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Never seen an A60, but the A75 is a widely used design.
Might run your finger inside the coupler to see is a burr has developed.
Sometimes the catch-pawl thingy inside needs some grease on the sides where it slides up and down when you move the release lever.
Or maybe it is gummed up and the inside thingy wont come all the way down and back like it is suppose to.

If you have surge brakes you might want to check to see if the actuator in the coupler is hanging up keeping the latch from retracting enough.

When you drop trailer on the ball, move the truck forward or backward just a little and you will hear it drop on the ball. Try that. When i say a little i mean just a quick inch or two. Some times the locking latch hangs up on the ball.

Try to activate the lock while your trailer jack is still holding some weight. I don't know what model I have, but it couples and locks much easier if the wheel on the trailer jack is still holding some weight.

Like "SCFD rtrd" says while you cranck the trailer jack down try to acivate the locking mechanisism just before the jack is almost down.

On some actuators, there is an adjustment for how tightly the actuator fits over the ball. Get out the instructions for your actuator and see if there is an adjustment.

Another thought is to contact the manufacturer of the actuator and ask if there is an adjustment and if so, instructions for loosening it.
