I have a 2009 Continental triple axle trailer with Tie Down standard disc brakes. The brakes need to be replaced after this last tow.

Your advise needs to consider that the trailer is used only once a year totaling 30 miles.

Before taking the boat to the shop this year I have cleaned the disc brakes enough to get this years service done. When I get the boat back in the lift is when I will rebuild the braking system.

What are your suggestions on what brakes to use to replace the Tie Downs now installed? Please keep in mind the small amount of use.

liberally spray, hose, and rinse down the trailer and especially the brakes with clean fresh water after salt water dunking as soon as possible after each dunk.
being it an annual event, spending an extra 10-15 minutes to wash/rinse the trailer seems like easy cheap maintenance. could even go so far as to also give the trailer a blow off with an air gun to remove most of the excess water around the brakes which could lead to problem, but IMO pretty minimal if fresh water.

alternatively, you could install a fresh water brake rinse system similar to those found on systems fitted for drum brakes. Then all you'd do is hook up the fresh water hose to the inlet and flush for a few good minutes and be done.

also consider cadmium or stainless brake components over the standard "rusty" steel components for longer life in the salt environment.

If you spend more money up front to get a better disc brake system, and maintain it properly as stated before, no reason why you couldn't avoid this problem for the continuing life of the trailer. There are other brands of brakes such as Kodiak or Deemax that offer much better quality that you may want to look into. Check the price on a new system of better brakes, versus replacing the tie down system regularly over the next couple of years. Typically with better systems, as long as maintenance is done according to factory recommendations, brake pads are the weakest point to which you would need replacements.

For once a year I would put drum brakes on and rinse very well immediately after dunking. Grease all the innerds (other than surfaces of shoes) liberally. You'll spend over 2k going all stainless which is foolish IMO.

I bought the Kodiac brakes w/ SS calipers. Very nice.
