I'm looking at a 2008 F350 CC Lariat 4X4 w/ 220k miles on it and am wavering whether or not to buy it. Its a nice enough tuck with normal rock chips and wear for that kind of mileage and should clean up well. Its got a clean carfax and drives/runs well too. I'm just not sure about the mileage issue. Would I ever be able to resell it?

Anything specific to look for?

.

TIA

I wouldnt be afraid of that truck for the miles, but would check it for blow by and just give a good test drive, lock in 4x4.

How can you tell?

How can you tell?

On the instrument panel push the button that says info. It will tell you the hours that are on the engin.

Engine may be fine but with that many miles no matter what brand the rest of the truck is worn out, stuff that never breaks or has problems will with that many miles.

Go with 7.3 or new 6.7

I have 1 6.0 and 6.4 left in our fleet with both over 300k on them. They run well, look like crap cause they are used hard for construction. Have a mechanic look at it like a surveyor does when buying a boat. Jeff

For 16k it sounds like a deal to me.

This ^

I would think that things like air conditioning, auto locks, auto windows, door handles, seats, dash, ball joints and whatever else that can wear out, probably is.

I'm not saying it's too many miles to still be driving, I'm saying it's too many miles to be buying.

It seems like a better deal for the seller than the buyer.

get a cummins, the 6.4's had some quirks that will cost you your left arm since its out of warranty

x2 on the 7.3.....they aren't that fast but they had good torque and were bulletproof. Like another poster said... the miles aren't bad for a diesel, but you have lots of other stuff that don't like 200k miles, front end parts, transmission, etc....

Check the service history if one is available.
If it was a fleet vehicle for a large company, it may have been well taken care of and 16k is a fair price.
If no history, the assumption has to be that nothing was done and you will be spending lots of $$ to bring it up to a reliable standard. I have spent 10k plus over the years to keep my 200k miles, elderly Powerstroke in good condition. The mechanical engine and transmission have been almost trouble free but I have replaced power windows, locks, nearly a complete front end, water pump, power steering the list goes on and on.

Call your local Ford dealer (or any reputable shop) and tell them you think you have an injector going out. Ask for an estimate to replace them. That should give you an answer.

That makes very little sense.

i work in the service department at a diesel shop & 6.4 are a hit or miss. some 6.4s have no problems & the others that have all kinds of problems. i have one with 27000 miles that needs head gaskets. 8 injectors parts & labor will run you 5000 at my shop. I'd stay away but im a huge fan of the 6.0 & many guys on here scream lemon at them

I sold my 08 f350 with 45k miles on it. 6.4 is a junk motor.

I kinda look at it this way, it didnt get 220K miles by sitting in the shop for months at a time, the super low miles scare me more... Just my way of thinking..
