I have been working on a way to safely secure a fishing rod rack in a truck bed. What I have come up is a simple modification to my existing racks that can be done to the racks we have already sold if needed.
All of my racks will now be shipped with 1" holes at each end of the main spar. This allows a ratchet or buckle style tie down strap to be run through the rod rack and then secured to the tie down cleats present in most truck beds.
You will need to supply your own tie down strap and remove the hook from one end to feed it through. I was able to easily open the loop on my hook with a screwdriver and slide the nylon tie down loop off then reattach it after feeding it through the rod rack.
I mounted mine at the back of the bed for better pictures but would recommend mounting to the cleats at the front. I did drive around running some errands today and the rod rack was very secure. A ratchet type tie down is easier to tighten. You could also run a small cable with lock to secure your rod rack if so desired.
