I'm fairly new to the high speed game, and the season for wahoo on the east coast of florida is here so any help would definitely improve our catch.

I've fished with a few people who use bent butt rods with 30w or 50w, I have a couple of 30w but they are not on bent butt rods, do they need/have to be on bent butt rods?

How big are the inline weights that you typically use?

How far back do you run the lures?

How many do you run at time? 2,3?

Will you run anything without a weight on top?

I know a lot depends on sea conditions, but lets use an average day for a 50 mile run out to the ledge. Say 10-15 mph winds and 2-4' seas.

Thanks for your time and response!

John

How fast are you going to be going? That will be the key on how much weight you will need to use. Skipping lures on the top, I don't think that works well but I may be wrong.

all this is for about 17-20 knots

I don't use bent butts, just 50's. Drop them back and creep drag just past when it stops taking line out. You don't want too much drag!

I use either 36 or 48oz inlines with at least 20 ft of 250-400lb shock leader with at least a 8oz lure.
Ordinarily three. Two low, one from the bridge. Stagger distances with center being furthest back. Closest is usually about 75 to 100 yds back
I get them out 5 miles from the inlet and roll. Same thing coming back in.
