In lieu of frying a turkey I wanted to smoke one this year, been years since I did a turkey on my smoker and have never done one on my Masterbuilt electric smoker. Do a lot of venison summer sausage as well as briskets(my favorite to smoke) and boston butts but just have not done a turkey in years

I opted to inject and coat with cajun seasoning just like when I fry one

this was a 16lb bird, I turned my smoker on before I went to bed. Set it at 250 and when I got up at 5 am it was ready to go.

Injected bird day before and added rub so all I did was add more rub and this is a before pic

Used apple wood chips and had on smoker for about hours, took it off right after 1 pm and let it rest

Here are couple pics of finished product

Wish I would have taken some pics while carving, had a PERFECT smoke ring.

Admiral told me to throw away turkey fryer:grin::grin::grin:

Seems like it had much more flavor than frying and you do not loose as much of the rub flavor as you do with frying a bird. Takes longer but in all honesty much less work

Wow, looks great:thumbsup: I smoked the turkey for years and switched to frying years ago. I loved it smoked but it limits what you can do with leftovers.
