In these pics its like a 22ga but when we rig them for marine we usually use an 18ga tinned duplex.

What type of heat source do you use? Pen torch? Or soldering iron?

I use a soldering iron to attach the wires to the LED strip, the torch is a little to agressive and burns the epoxy.

Mine showed up with 22GA. leads out of the strips, so must not have been meant for the Marine usage. now that I have put them in are they gonna last with the smaller wire?
Also it should be noted for those that are going to use the strips that they are polarity sensitive. IE I could get them to light with the hot to the red and the ground to the black but not the other way around.
So all is not lost the lights are great. just switch your wires if it does'nt fire off right the first time.

You need not worry they all come with the smaller wire pigtail. I meant for extending the wires or adding a longer wire. The smaller wire is fine for its 6" length!

So what connectors and wire do you recommend if we are planning on adding wire to the existing 22 gauge leads out of the strips?

We normally use 18ga
