I have a 1996 Yamaha 30 ESRU on which I plan to renew the water pump. As far as I can see no woodruff key is included in the water pump kit. My experience from other Yamahas is that you must remove the key in order to change the wear plate and that you also usually destroy the old one getting it out. Is it possible to change the wear plate without taking the key out on this motor or is it best to order a key separately in case I destroy the old one...?

Good question, for some reason that one doesn't come with one.

I am not 100% sure on that engine, but the other engines with dowel pins that hold the wear plate position, can be removed and the wear plate moved to clear the key. Like I said....I can't ever recall changing one on that particular engine, but other keyed engines, that trick works on.

I know there is one, but for some reason Yamaha does not include them in their pre-packaged WP kits.

Do you need one? I can send you one if you would like.

Thanks

Andy
