Hey There,

I have never had any kind of stereo on one of my boats before and have a question.

If I do not care to have am/fm or CD but only want to be able to play the music off my iPhone 4 is there a very small head unit available for that? I am looking for something about the size of a yamaha command link gauge. Limited space on my dash with two 10" gps/plotters already flush mounted. I have to think there are others like me that only want to play tunes off their iphone, ipod, or mp3 player.

Thank in advance for your reply

Lots of folks do what you are asking including myself. Personally, I would install an amp in your console. The amp will power your speakers and your ipod will plug directly into the amp without the need for a head unit and you won't take up any room on your dash.

Contractor - I am in the same position as Bob. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on how to accomplish this.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Can you guys recommend an amp. It's going in a 20ft Jones Brothers Cape Fisherman. Smaller is better but want to have good sound when running too. Speaker recommendations would be great too (Only two speakers)...I am completely new to audio on my boat.

Is there an amp that has a USB port than can both play the music from my iphone as well as charge it?

I hate doing this in the Jenson Forum......but, 99% of the folks on this site will recomend the same thing.

JL Audio - You may pay a touch more up front, but the quality, sound and longevity of the equipment is well worth it.

I would order all of your stuff from Jim @ BOE Marine as his prices and service really can't be beat. Make sure you click the "add to cart" as the list prices are not actually what he sells for.....the sale price is generally discounted.

Anyway, If I were you I'd get a JL M400 Amp and a pair of JL M770 speakers.

I have this same setup in a smaller boat and it rocks. You can downsize the amp to a two channel, but if you ever wanted to add a couple of more speakers or a sub you would have the capacity for it with the 4 channel amp.

I can't remember if the amp has a USB or not......mine does not charge, but the battery generally last around 12-15 hours so more than enough juice to play music all day long.

Here are some links to the above products.......hopefully this helps.
