A guy in my Marina has the same boat as I do, 97 Tiara 3100 open. He had some windlass issues that ended with 200ft of chain and anchor at the bottom. Got me thinking about my windlass (Ideal). Read the maintenance section of the manual and it stated that the gear oil should be changed every 2 years. Gear oil?, I said to myself.

Check it, and it was basicly empty and smelled like crap. Oh those were old oil streaks in the chain locker, not rust marks from the chain, I said to my self. Out with the old and in with the new (SAE 90 Gear oil). Nice clean chain locker.
