I just bought a 1989 Black Watch 30 Flybridge and need to ship from her old home in Monroe Michigan to Charleston South Carolina. I've started to shop with different shippers. I would prefer to use some one that is referred to me.
Will you please recommend a company to help?

Uship.com. This website was very helpful and I got a great price. You post what you want to ship and the shipping companies will bid on the job. I called a few marinas around here who use shippers and they were asking at least 3 times what I paid.

Tim does a nice job handling bigger boats - great equipment and professional. Tell him Steve from South Shore referred you.

I posted on UShip and recieved a few bids. I tried to contact the lowest bid but the bid had expired. With a little internet investigative work I tracked down the company that placed the bid and contacted them to see if I follow up on the bid. They replied that since I had contacted them directly The could quote the price minus the Uship Commission which was $300 bucks!!!!
Uship is not the most recommended, they have extremely high fees, which they call deposit, so they don't have to get licensed. Legal transporters have hard time placing quotes since many illegal or not compliant (aka kid with a pickup) transporters place cheap bids.
I placed an ad to move my 34ft Silverton from Baltimore to Minnesota, when a hauler contacted me I asked for their license n. and contacted them directly. They had a fee of $ 500 from Uship, I was extremely happy to pay same amount, but knowing they were getting the whole thing.

So Valv, you dont recommend Uship but used them to find a boat transport? If you happened to find a way to way to get around their rules or fees by contacting the hauler directly, then more power to you. I got a great price quoted by a legitimate hauler so I figured I would pass the website along to the OP.
I used the site to find shipment, and there's quite a charge to pay to the site to accept a load, way more than standard broker fees, and this bring your quote not profitable for a shipper, and attracts non compliant, uninsured transporter.
To bypass it, just ask the shipper for their MC number, since they have to have it to comply by law, find their contact info on FMCSA web site, and deal with them directly, they'll be VERY happy to work for you, and you'll have a complete report of their business.
I am saying this to let people be aware that some of the transporters involved are not your best choice.
If the OP needs a transporter, let me know, I can see if the one I booked to transport my 34ft Silverton from Baltimore to Minnesota needs a backhaul.
I bought a 25' Maxum last year and had this company (recommended to me) ship from Sandusky, OH to my area in Michigan (about 100 miles or so). Dave does a great job.
