I was on my way back from FWB getting new tires on the trailer and stopped by to see a few of the boats pulling in for the poker run this weekend. The Nor-Tech is awesome. They said they are`nt going to splash it, it`s only here for show. what a show. The best boat of all is the last picture. Enjoy

I'm curious about the poker run crowd. The boats are unbelievable. They just party & run from bar to bar? No real race? More like a car show I guess?

They have a predetermined route they have to follow and at every stop you pick up a card. The best hand at the end of the day wins prizes. They do run from bar to bar, lots of partying and great fun. You don`t have to have a boat like this to participate, anybody can enter. A lot of these guys do this for advertisement or for charity contributions.

Poker Runs are popular on the Upper Chesapeake... I know a some of the usual suspects and have some friends that hop on boats. These guys party like rockstars - all year long.

No race. They go from spot to spot (5 total) and pick cards, the best hand wins. In the mix are some races between friends, hot body contests, melt the frozen T-Shirt contests, side bets... u name it.

The frozen T-Shirt contest is simple. Two girls, one frozen T-shirt. They must melt the shirt with body heat only, fastest team wins. Oh, and the entire crowd wins as well...

Some of the local private boats top out at 160-170mph+++.

There is a show on TV called "Powerboating In Paradise" that is all about the Florida Powerboat Club and the poker runs they do. Its cool to watch. Basically just a lot of footage of big go-fast boats hauling ass.

There are a few big center consoles that enter in the poker runs as well.

Yes....all they do is run from point to point, dock at bars and show off the boats. Some of these guys own Million dollar boats just to run in 2-3 poker runs a year.

Definitely a rich mans hobby.

What is up with that cat on the trailer? Trying to keep the highway width down or something? I assume there are hydraulics that position it that way after it's driven on? Better hope the gas tanks don't leak. Weird.

thats the only way to get a big wide cat down the highway. those boats are really wide. the trailers are all hydraulic and worth more than most smaller cc's

The first boat "Pure Platinium" is from JAX and live on the river just down from us. YouTube his boat and watch some bad azz videos. While you are there search "turbine boats" and "mti". Go watching there!

I used to organize Jammin on the James, A poker run that had 120 boats last year. Boats came from FL to Maine, from Indiana and Wisconsin.....all come to VA. Most of these are charity events with entry fees covering helicopter coverage, meals, prizes, etc. Cards are drawn as stated and other prizes might be available depending on the budget. Our club donates 100% of proceeds to the Shriners, $25K for each of the last couple years.

FL powerboat club is a company and not a charity. Lately many poker-runners are limiting there participation to those events that a charity driven.

Yep....the boat is 12ft wide. On the trailer like that he's 8.5.

Nothing leaks. All fluids (oil, power steering, etc) have tanks inside the engine compartment that can be pumped to and sealed. The boat is loaded (like normal or lifted) onto the trailer and then strapped down quite well. All the fluids are pumped into their sealed tanks and then the trailer is hydraulically tilted as you see it. Some of the trailers run $130-140K.

Even his truck and trailer are bad-azz. That boat posted a WOT test pass of 186mph a year ago!!!! (he came to our run last year too!)

If I had one of those, it would have to be powered by a turbine. Ain't going to have no gasoline powerplants that need rebuilding every 100 hours. :)

I am watching the FPC show now and they do donate a lot to a children's charity, over $100K every year...that's what they said on TV anyway.

While they may donate (and that's commendable), they also collect income/make a living from the club/events. More and more of these runs are 100% charity where even the organizers pay the standard entry fee like everyone else (our officers always did).

Funny thing ;? You Mercury guys wanting to look like an E-Tec. Takes THT to bring out the truth. But to do that would be like a blonde changing her hair to brunette-Artificial intelligence. You Mercury guys would have artificial dependability.

I think it's more an effort to follow Intrepid's lead (painting engines white) than to try and look like an etec.

I don't think it's about trying to look like or following anyone, they just happen to look good.

Maybe I'm over-thinking this but wouldn't hauling an I/O motor at the angle that blue boat was on cause all kinds of trouble with motor oil coming up into the heads? Unless he's running a dry sump oil pan, of course...
