Looking for ideas on a cold starting problem - 1999 Johnson 200. This is not the typical cold starting problem found with this motor (I have had this engine for several years and know the usual 8 second choke routine to cold start). Engine cranks but will not turn over when she's cold until I continually try for over 20 minutes and will then start to turn over stalling out several times before idling. I can then start the boat all day long after she's warmed up.

Mechanic took a look at it cold and said he was getting no spark. Claimed the stator was bad and and after physical inspection of the trigger he determined that should be replaced as well. After these parts were installed he now states that he is getting spark on only one bank and that the inside (trigger) magnet of the flywheel is defective requiring the replacement of the flywheel.

This is starting to get very costly - any ideas??

Thanks.

Get the service manual from the link in my signature and a flywheel off ebay.
DIY or pay the man.

This guy has a lot of flywheels for sale at $49 ea.

You'll need a torque wrench to reinstall .
