I was listening to last weeks re-play of the Stern show while driving in my truck. I caught his interview with Lady Gaga. It was very interesting. Of course, Stern is one of the best interviewers ever, IMO. Stern knows how to make anybody sound interesting. However, Gaga didn't need any "help" to keep my attention. However, Stern is not the subject of my post, Lady Gaga is.

The Lady performed two songs live in studio for Stern & company. Just her & piano. I was absolutely FLOORED! Her voice, coupled with the meaning behind both songs, which she wrote, very moving. I never would have believed I would become a Lady Gaga fan...well, maybe "fan" is a strong word. Still, I was really impressed, while I don't care for her in-concert style, which, may be the reason I never really gave her a second thought, I will surely give her CD's a listen to now. The woman can sing, what an AWESOME! voice she has, and, after hearing her throughout the interview, I found her to be more "real" than many of today's performers. Yeah, I like lady Gaga...oh, boy.

Here are the two songs she performed on the Stern Show, if anyone cares to hear.

I wonder how much Amy's death effects Lady Gaga's (and others) decisions to stay off the path of self destruction.
How it reaffirms how powerless one can be once the bottle and drugs get their hooks in you if you don't want help.

The talent show, "The Voice" starts out picking singers on their voice alone. The judges do not even see the contestants in the beginning.

LG knows how to stand out in the crowd of singers trying to gain a share of the attention.

Good for her.

This is DOCKSIDE CHAT; Current topics, boating chat, general discussions and Introductions. NO politics or Religion.

Now, if I had posted this in, say, THE BOATING FORUM; Discussion of boats, engines & other marine topics
I would understand your point.

Or, as you put it "a fishing forum", such as SPORTFISHING AND CHARTERS FORUM; Sportfishing discussion, questions and Charter reports or, any other forum on this site, except for the Bilge, where most anything is fair game, I would see your point. However, DOCKSIDE CHAT, IMO, means, things you would talk about while sitting on the boat dockside with friends, family, etc., I believe Lady Gaga falls under "CURRENT TOPICS & GENERAL DISCUSSIONS. I may be wrong, but I don't think I am.

BTW, have you seen some of the OTHER threads in DOCKSIDE CHAT? If you think my Lady Gaga thread is out of place, I wonder what you think of some of those other threads...which, I won't bring up by thread name, because, again, this is DOCKSIDE CHAT and they are ALL O.K. by me, and, if any thread did not fall into the DOCKSIDE forum guidelines, the moderators would surely ZAP! them just as sure as the sun will rise. Dig?
So KMA! :Q

She was accepted to The Juliard School for the performing arts at age 11. They take only the most gifted talent. It's incredibly difficult to earn a place at the school. Her commercial music is crap! Does she have talent? Without a doubt. Her masquerading around as a freak in meat clothing doesn't help her to be accepted as a legitimate and credible artist as you can see by most peoples responses here in your thread.

Agreed. That's why I never gave her a second thought, but, when I listened to her interview & then HEARD her sing her two songs, just her playing piano & singing...very moving.

I get that, and I don't care for that style either, never did, never will. BUT, as I said, I am very impressed & moved when she is singing w/out all the costumes & other junk. I can separate the BS from the good stuff, and just listen to the good. The rest, well, that's for all her die-hard fans, God bless all of them.

As for the negative responses, I don't much care. As I said above, this IS DOCKSIDE CHAT, so I can post whatever i want as long as it's within the established guidelines. If they want to poke fun & insult, etc., have a blast. Personally, I don't respond (usually) to threads/posts that don't interest me.

Funny, they all clicked on my thread, which simply says "lady Gaga". If they don't like her so much, why even click on the thread?;?

That is EXACTLY! my point. I'll tell you this. Howard (Stern) had a bunch of calls after Gaga's appearance. ALOT of folks had the same impression of her as you, me, etc., and after the interview & especially HEARING her perform those two songs, came away thinking/feeling the same way we did. thank you for not being afraid to post your thoughts:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I posted this back in August, '09 - when I first got interested in her talent. The YouTube link doesn't work now. ("Let's Dance" - over 10 MILLION hits at the time!).

I posted again in October, '09, with 2 links from her first SNL performance. GREAT stuff! ;cool;

http://www.thehulltruth.com/dockside-chat/247593-just-case-you-missed-her-last-nite.html

Saw her a few months ago on Larry King and that interview showed her to be a really down to earth "person", with a HUGE love for her fans!

Call her what you may, but she's got a great voice and quite the piano player! I can get past the "costumes" - they're part of the "show".

"Lets Dance" currently has 142,178,712 HITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! :o;cool;

Wow. MUCH better...if only she could drop the funk & go back to THIS, combined with performing like she did on Stern...I would be a HUGE! fan then. Still, she should express herself in whatever way she wants to, as I got the impression that she is totally real, meaning, in this case, all the funky get-ups & such are HER choice & part of who she is. So, I have to respect her for that.

I get the feeling, that as Gaga matures, years down the road (if there is a 'down the road for all of us & our country) she will eventually drop all the glitter & glamor, and just be content to write music/songs & sing without all the other stuff. Either way, I'll be keeping an open eye AND ear on this young super talent from now on ;)

If she came on the scene as a plane Jane she would have been a also ran.
I think we all know to be noticed in the entertainment world, if you don't stand out in a big way, or no one will know your there.
Get noticed for you outrageous looks and attitude and have long term success (hopefully) for you talent.

That's how Madonna did it for years, then she cooled it as her career moved along.

Pink, Joan Jet, Grace Slick and others have their own style to get noticed.
The link is to the top 10 female rock singers. I would not put Lady Gaga as a rocker though but they all seek music as their avenue to stardom.

Yep. I saw her in April at a surf competition in Cocoa Beach without makeup walking up and down the beach. You could tell it was her because she had her name on her shirt. She looked rough.

Funky sells, and she is all business. I saw an interview with Anderson Cooper on 6o minutes a while back. Everything she does is calculated as part of growing her "brand". Definately successful. Got to give her credit for that.

So will she be remembered for her meat dress or for her music? I sure would rather be appreciated as an artist for generations to come than that girl who once wore a meat dress.

Elton John was outrageous, but the music was amazing. Led Zeppelin had their mysterious doings, but the music is eternal. You have to have a mixture of both I suspect. Lady Gaga is lacking in the music department.

think she cares about legit and credible, or what people on a fishing forum think? Nope... she will be worth 500millon+++ buy the end of her run.

For that kind of coin, I would wear meat suits as well.

One day we will probably be posting pics of her private yacht and drooling on it...

She could remain "legit" and broke...

Thank you for posting. I heard the broadcast but didn't know it was on YouTube.

Howard is the best interviewer out there.
Lady Gaga's explanation of what the first song was about regarding her grandfather and grandmother's relationship was very moving.

Thanks again,

Too have family time sometimes you have to watch what they do so I was and American Idol it is. When she came on as a mentor. I thought ya right to tell you the truth, she gave more help to each contestant than anyone else. You get pass the outrageousness of her outer appearance the inner is truly remarkable. Just as any shooting star across the sky their is a beginning of dim light that becomes brighter as it streaks with a tail only to fade. Only when it's brightest does it really stand out thats where she is and has the talent to back it up. At 48 years old I can see that. And truly a star of her own. I have always loved Kate Pearsons voice, Chrissie Hynde just to name a few

Yah but we the majority here are all old farts and Gaga is not marketing herself towards us. Although I'd wager to say that again the majority of us old farts would love to face poke that or stretch her one leg up and let her toes tickle the hallway ceiling light fixture while we nail her good.

I don't follow pop music or celebrities and I really don't know if I've ever heard a lady gaga song. I certainly can't name any of her tunes.

But I did happen to see an interview of her about a month ago and was surprised to learn that her biggest influence and favorite artist is Bruce Springsteen.

Remember, these people are all about what sells, not necessarily to please your particular listening tastes.

She definitely has talent and is one of the few performers out that can sing AND play an instrument. And the fact that she writes a lot of her own music is impressive... Lots of "performers" these days are nothing more than good looks with digitally enhanced vocals and good dance moves.

And she came into the studio and belted out those tunes at 8 in the morning. So many artists that Howard has had over the years refused (politely) to perform because it was too early, boo hoo. Last person who came in that early, that I remember, was either Bryan Adams or John Cougar Mellencamp, and they were both good too.

I was impressed with the videos. That girl can sing, she is a talented musician and she writes her own material. I knew very little of her, so I read her bio. Accepted to Juilliard at 11, but did not attend, is a huge accomplishment in itself. Remember, her target audience, those who buy music, don't hang out here.
