I know how much the ficht motors are hated but I have owned mine for three years and have not had any issues... Until now.. My lower unit recently blew and my mechanic has told me to use the etec lower unit and I have seen it's a pretty popular thing people are doing but I dong know why. Can someone please tell me the difference between the two lower units and if the etec lower unit is that much better. Also will I loose mph?

I have 2 -225 and I wonder you can't just rebuild the bearing and seals, I need to go thru both of mine...let me know

Thanks for the reply. I did have mine rebuilt... $1200 and 3 hours later it went out again.. So, Im leaning on the etec m2.. just trying to get info on them
