Michael,

Thanks for the great support you provide the forum members.

I would like to replace the wood bunks on my elevator lift and have a couple of questions. What do you recommend as the spec for the wood? Is this just marine lumber or is there a more exact spec I should be requesting. Also, where would you suggest I could purchase this spec of lumber? Is it generally available or special order at lumber yards. I'm in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Thanks again- Dave

Dave,

Is your boat a step hull vessel? If it is unfortunately you will need to buy step hull bunks to match your hull. If it isn't, simply run to any lumber yard & pick up 3" x 12' marine treated lumber. You can cover the bunks with carpet but in my opinion this is a waste of time. Sure on a boat trailer you need the carpet b/c you come sliding onto the trailer, there is a tremendous amount of friction. With a boat lift you do not come sliding on, there is no friction since you're pulling up over the bunks & then raising the craft out of the water. How much does your boat weigh? Call me if you would like to discuss further.
