So I just watched the Rule Mate
http://bestbilgepumpreviewshere.com/rule-rm1500-marine-rulemate-1500-marine-bilge-pump-review
The pump is "green" and shuts down if it senses oil.
This seems to be a poor way to save a potential disaster in the making.
My year old Rule bilge pump in my year old new boat wouldn't work. For some reason water got into somewhere it shouldn't have. Rust formed, expanded and cracked the pump housing like a hard boiled egg.
I replaced it with a Rule-Mate pump like this one. I worked at first but the next morning I saw the auto-bilge pump light on the helm illuminated it. The pump was running for no reason. I read the reviews on West Marine's website for the pump. It got horrible reviews from users with many of them saying the same thing: the pump comes on by itself. It ran the battery down on one guys. I think this auto water sensing, floatless stuff is garbage. I pulled it and will try another type but most of the pumps out there have gone to this floatless technology which is troubling. Just my .02. If anybody has a good experience, let me know because I'd like a reliable bilge pump and I don't think that's asking for a luxury.
I would never install that on my boat.

Check out Lovett pumps. Internal sealed float switch.

I just bought a 500 gph model this week. We'll see how it goes but luckily I'll be using it as a forward bilge pump that wont see much use HOPEFULLY!
