I have a fish pond about 1/2 acre.It has had the worst moss problem the last
2 years.I have tried aqua-shade/Diquart(almost killed the fish)copper sulfate.
I can not stop it and it looks like Crap know. The water is clear not muddy.
You guys got any advise? Also I got maybe 3 huge grass carp in there.I just
put another 6 small ones in there 2 mouths ago.Are they any other chemicals out there?

What's pond moss? Is that the same thing as algae?

If your problem is algae then your water is not in balance. You will want to test your water or have it tested to know where it stands. The bottom line is, there is to much food in the water and the moss/ algae is feeding off of it. Remove the food source for the moss/ algae and the moss/ algae goes away.

Why copper sulfate, why not aluminum sulfate?

Karmex, it isnt labelled for ponds but it works, we use it in out 7 acre pond and kills all the algea and not the fish. Or you can get a pond fetilizer which darkens the water which stops the algea growth.

This green sht that grows on the bottom.Kinda looks like a coontail
but then turns into a blanket laying on top of the water after turning loose

Where do you get the Karmex

You can get it at farm supply store, if you tell them its for pond they will probably tell you not to use it, but we sell it to plenty of ppl in our area who use it for pond and we have used it for many years and never had a problem. Its around 42 dollars for a 5 lb bag.

Yes that would be plenty

Karmex could very well work, but why would someone want to put a herbicide in water? The problem is the water is out of balance, a herbicide won't bring the water back into balance, it will only kill plant matter and yet leave the water out of balance.

If you dont feel the need to spend that much money all you really do is put something in the pond to darken the water.

It is used as a herbicide, the bag should say how much it would treat im not sure right off hand.

I would put ANY chemicals in that water, NONE. How about a sterile carp to do some clean up for you? You see those fish you show in the PIC? What will that chemical do to them AND their cover - the moss\algae? I wouldn't risk it. If you want a nice clean looking pool of water, fill yours in with cement and fill'er up with tap water.

It won't kill the fish we put multiple bags in our pond and have never had a fish kill

I was kidding about the concrete. In my opinion your pond looks great and looks like a pond SHOULD look. I took care of a place back in college that had a nice pond too. It was inundated with the moss like you have. The owners spoke with a local college and the biologist suggested getting the sterile carp so they could balance out the ecosystem. Once the moss was semi dispersed by the carp, the pond came back to life.

I'd still steer clear of throwing chemicals in there.

Good luck!

Call your state fish and game HQ and they should dispatch a regional biologist to your location and possibly eradicate the problem for you. I did this for a farmer when I worked for the VDGIF. Cannot remember what chemical was used. Sorry.

If the water is clear (as it looks ) it's not algae. By the way.... too many grass carp for a pond that size... Some aquatic growth is a good thing. You can get a PH test kit from Wal-Mart or any pool place.

Aquakill...
Had a ton on water pods at Lake Waccamaw. Used that every spring. Google it and you'll find it. It does have a oder for about two weeks then dies down. Used a spreader to broadcast it but water was not that deep at Lake Waccamaw so I could wade it. Stuff works but I would call them on that liner ..........
