Buy a mold/fill with liquified lead/allow to cool.

Repeat as necessary.

Remeber that google is a good friend . . . just type in your question and voila . . . the following was the first hit

Remember to melt and pour lead in a well vented area as lead fumes are toxic . . . and it burns like hell when you drop some on yourself

Unless your selling them, I can't see how buying a mold and making your own is a wise decision.

I bought a few Downrigger weights on Ebay pretty cheap.

I make them and sell them for $2.99 per lb. shipped to your door. I have molds for 8, 10, & 12 lb downrigger balls. If you do not know what you are doing with lead and not used to handling it I would suggest you don't!!! You can get hurt really bad.

I have the molds to make the fish style as well but they come out like crap so I won't sell them.

I improvised after I got mine cut off in a kingfish tournament years ago. I took 10 16oz bank sinkers and threaded them on a short piece of 200lb mono, crimped the tag ends together, and clipped it onto my downrigger line. worked just as good as a cannonball.

Way I look at, if I loose one a year I could not buy the equipment to and spend the time and effort to make them

Just take a 12 inch piece of 2 inch pvc pipe cut the front on a 45 degree slant, drill a hole 6 inches back, put a small stainless eye bolt with a washer on the inside, put a 1 ounce weight at the front chin, paint it black, put a swivel in the eye bolt with a 24 inch leash and your release clip on the end and go fish.....................It will swim and dive and it's light........NO CHARGE GUYS.

Have you tried it while pulling heavy stuff like Shark lures or big squids? I would think its too light to stay vertical? Thanks for the tip.

I Don't troll for sharks, the leash goes to the swivel at the eye bolt.I guess the heavier the bait the heavier the chin weight.A torpedo trolling weight mounted inside the pipe would be fine.Be sure it is perfectly centered and be sure the eye bolt is as well.Sorry no pics, have not used it in a long time and don't know where it is.It is simple enough to do,test it and you can put holes for the eye bolt 1/2 inch apart for adjustments front to back. Can also put cement inside if you want heavy and cheap and no marks, pvc is non marking, unlike lead..........
