Anybody know what the limits are on YF tuna and blackfins in the gulf? I am planning a trip, and just wondering how many we can boat.

I am a recreational fisherman, no commercial, no charter.

Three yellows per person/day. Blacks are some high # if at all. Thick as peanut butter. Of course that may change depending on where in the Gulf you are fishing. There are days when you can sink the boat with Blacks. Catch em up!

. . . . . . . . . and even as a recreational fisherman you need a Highly Migratory Species Permit for those species.

First light,
Do you really need one? Out of all the years I've been fishing out of AL/MS/LA for tuna I've never had one, nor have I ever been asked about it?

your supposed to have it, its $20, easier to buy it and not have to worry than get hassled by the man for not having it.

Every time I have been stopped in the Gulf with Tuna in the box, I was asked to show My HMS permit.

I don't think you need an HMS permit for blackfin?

Correct.

Blackfin have zero regulations. No size or bag limit and no HMS permit required.

Yellowfin do require an HMS permit though.

I went to that website. They had applications for the Atlantic. Is this necessary if I only fish in the gulf?

My dad actually owns the boat in legal terms. Do we both need one, or just him and the boat? What if im out in the boat, and he isnt there, then do I need one?

Does this require everyone on the boa tot have one, or just the boat captain and one for the boat?

HMS permit is just for the boat and is non transferable.
