I was asked at work to attend an event in New Orleans the June and am wanting to gather a little intel prior to making a decision. That time of year is prime time for boating here in the Pacific Northwest and I don't think I will go unless there is something to look forward to in the gulf from a fishing perspective. Jumping into a big center console and fishing a rig like I read many reports about makes the trip sound much more apealing. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

To get offshore, you're about a 90 minute to 2 hour drive from Venice, Grand Isle, or Fourchon to get into some offshore action. June is a pretty good time to be here.

Also, you're only 30 minutes away from tons of options for some inshore marsh fishing as well. In other words, June is a pretty good time to be here. It will just be a tad bit warmer than you're used to.

Coming from wa state it will be hot as hell for you offshore, go early and dress light and find someone with a big boat. Will be in the 90's. Venice would be the place to go.

The weather won't be a big deal. Went to school at ASU years ago and fish in Cabo a couple time a year. Would like to fish a 30-36 center console. Have a twin diesel sportfisher and fish a big convertible in Cabo. If the weather is that warm and fishing that good then I think this trip is a must. Might work out nicely. If a THT'r has open seat or if you recommend a charter that would be great.

I have my boat down there now. Venice is a two hour ride from downtown. Its the worst road I have been down in a while.

Don't expect a nice place to stay, most are 80' long sinlge wide trailers. Bunch of nice boats and charters at Venice Marina though.

Its another 25 miles or so down the river before you hit open water then and 30 -40 miles out from there.

I am heading back down for Tuna fishing in about 3 weeks or so. Then fishing the oil man rodeo in May before bringing the boat home.

Take the drive to Grand Isle its quicker to get out fishing

It takes longer to drive to grand isle from n.o. than to venice. You can always head down to laffitte, it is only an hour drive but for small fishing only, the gulf is 45 min. by boat from laffitte, and another hour or more to deeper water. If you want offshore, go to venice.

Goto Venice man, 1.5hrs from NoLA. Just goto the gulfcoast section on here and look for fishing reports out of Venice. If that doesn't make you want to have a run down there with some fish I wouldn't know what to tell you. June for me has been a good month for fishing the past few years too. Seas were usually relatively calm, but its gonna be HOT.

Com'on down you'll have a ball!
Locations: #1) Venice

I know, I salmon fished near Belingham back in Oct of '01, love it up there. When I flew back to N.O. stepped out of the airport I was welcomed with a warm embrace of steam.

Come down to Venice, the road is ok and 4 lane about half way. Search for Venice Charters on the web or call Capt. Eddie Burger 985-788-5080 and he can help you out. Contact Venice Marina, Cypress Cove Marina, and the Light House Hotel for lodging or Eddie and other Captains can put you in touch with houseboat owners that rent out nightly. Bring several big ice chest. Have fun.
