I am looking for a new (to me) vehicle for the wife. I'm thinking an expedition might be the choice because we have a baby on the way, travel pretty regularly, and has to replace the truck that I'm towing the boat with now, I was curious what you guys are averaging on mpg on these vehicles. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have the 5.4 in my '02 F-150 and get 15.5-16 MPG... You will probably see around 16-19 MPG in that Expedition depending on 2 or 4 wheel drive models.

My 05 4x4 gets 8.2mpg pulling #6500....Around town 13.2 to 14.0

I had a 2007 (3valve, 6 spd) version. Short wheel base (not an EL) and 4 wd. 16 around town. 18 hiway as I remember. Traded it in on a 2009 F150. Should have bought the expe off lease. The Admiral LOVED the Expe. Amazingly small turning radius. Great ride (independent rear susp), until you hooked up my boat which made the ride "choppy". Expe towed it fine, but the longer wheelbase crew F150 has a hugely better ride towing. Bitch to park though, and the Admiral bought an Edge. On the occaisions I drive the F150 to work, I fold in the "elephant ear" mirrors on each side so my parking neighbors have some way to walk between vehicles.

I've gotten 12/13 around town an all three of mine. 1997,2001,2002. Not sure about the 2008. Great engines they just like fuel.

I was real disappointed in the fuel economy of our 09 5.4 in an F350. But at least it doesn't have any power. I wouldn't want to hurt myself.

I thought they discontinued the excerison in like 05/06? I traded up for a new 08 F350 and the economy is shitty to say the least. mine is the Diesel and I get 6-8 towing and 12-15 highway. My 05 exc was 4x4 and had the v10 in it. It averaged 11-13, towing 6-7...

I have an '08 Expedition with the 5.4

Get about 16-17 on the highway ( I drive 80 )

Great engine, lots of power. City 13 at best.

Very good vehicle, the best I have owned. Tight turning radius due to some frame design...makes it easy for parking and maneuvering.

Had a 2008 F-250, 4X4 with a 5.4 and a 3.73 rearend.

Highway, no load - 11-13 mpg
Towing 6,000 lbs - 8-9 mpg

Absolutely NO low end torque - all the power is up at >3500 RPM

My 03 Expedition 5.4L 4x4 got 13-15 in city and 18-19 hwy for the 130,000 miles I put on it. I got 8mpg towing my 23 Regulator (very heavy 23). It was a great SUV for me, never missed a beat.

I had a 2003 F150 supercab with the 5.4 triton engine and a towing package with a 4-speed tranny and 3.44 gears. On a good day, it got 14 mpg. I towed my dads 19' boat to the Keys one year and I got 6-7 miles per gallon on the way down and back running 65-70 mph. It was a horrible towing vehicle. We swithced over to his V-6 explorer with the 5 speed tranny and it towed well and got 9-10 miles oer gallon at 65 mph. A few years ago he picked up a 2005 eddie bauer explorer with the V-8 and our ride up and down I-95 has been much more enjoyable. It humps the boat along and gets 8-10 miles per gallon at 60-70 mph.....the 5-speed tranny makes a big difference.
