I'm looking for recommendations for tying 17lb. lead core to 20lb mono. What knot(s) do you guts use?? Also what knot you use to tie mono to mono?

Thanks, Randy

for mono to mono or braid to mono, I use back to back "uni-knots". http://www.fish4fun.com/Joining2Lines.htm

you can also use back to back uni-knots with leadcore and mono but you must first remove 8 inches or so of lead from the sheathing of the leadcore.

I found this method for leadcore to mono and like it best as it has a lower finished profile that doesn't get hung up in guides as much- http://www.upangler.com/leadcore.html

Second vote for the willis knot. They never fail and are very easy to remember. I've always used 18 lb mason leadcore but recently switched to 27 lb suffix and I'm not sure if it's the change in brand or the different test weight, but the new stuff is much easier to slide the mono into the leadcore sheath.

I use the albright knot for lead, copper, and pretty much everything else that needs that needs to be joined together.

Check out this website. It gives awesome directions

I use a blood knot for dis-similar lines. With leadcore just remove about 6" or so of lead out of the sheath and then tie the knot. Uni to Uni works too, many of good ones it's all a personal choice.

Great animated knot site here: http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php

I have never used lead core. Would mind telling me what size swivel you use, As far as color goes, does each color equate to 5' ?
thanks;

Jim any size quality swivel that fits easily thru your gudes is fine. One color of leadcore is 30'

Yes one color will give you any from 3.5 to 5 feet of depth. Lure size and boat speed change the depth that lead core will reach.

Ah thanks Baha I miss interpreted that question. Depth also depends on the speed you are going. Faster is shallower and slower is deeper.

Thanks for all the replys. I sure have a few to experiment with now. I'm having a hard beliveing in that "Willis" knot. It's basicly sliding the mono in the sheath and clamping it in. I'm going to try them all and see which one I like. That Willis knot sure would be the smallest diameter to go through the guides.

Thanks again, Randy

The albright is great for leadcore, you dont have to remove the lead from the sheath. I have never had had one break at the knot.
