Is anyone towing with a newer chevy 4.8L? I'm trying to get an idea on gas mileage because this is not the usuall tow vehicle I use. I will be towing a 21 cape horn. The truck is a 2010.

I have the same motor in my truck and i get pulling a 20 ft bass boat around 14 mpg. so depending on gearing in your truck you are looking at best 11 mpg.

Pulling that Cape Horn, you will be lucky to get 9 with the 4.8 on the highway.

I have a 2008 Chevy Z-71 Ex Cab with the 3.55 rear end, 4 speed auto trans, and the 4.8L V-8. It is stock except for 275/70/18 Michelin LTX MS2 tires at 41psi and a K&N air filter. I get 17.5-19MPG around town and 19.5-21mpg on the highway. Pulling a 20ft Pioneer that I have weighed at 4200lbs (b/m/t) with a full tank of gas and no gear aboard, I get 14mpg at 59-62mph. Over that speed mileage really falls off. I recently pulled a 8000lb tractor about 200 miles and got 11 mpg the whole way there and back. For regular towing of less than 4500lbs the 4.8L is fine. Over that and I would go with the 5.3L or 6.0L V-8's.
