Hey guys, I have a 2008 double cab Toyota Tundra with the 4.7L, my truck configuration has a tow rating of 8100 lbs.

It is a 2wd, I have Goodrich all terrain tires, and the boat will be mostly used around south Florida and the keys.

I very interested on a new Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 with twin 150s, but I want to make sure my vehicle can handle the boat, I don't have much experience on the towing department and I know some of you have been towing for a long time!!!!

Getting a new truck for the boat right now is completely out of the question due to cost. Might have to sacrifice on boat model if this set up does not work, which obviously would suck.

The sea hunt has a dry weight of 4100 lbs, one of the Yamaha engine reports states that the "approximate weight of the boat during testing" (with 1/2 tank gas, 2 people, etc) was like 6,400 lbs.

any ideas on trailer weight? or possible total weight?

Any help will be very appreciated
great forum!

You should be fine in flat country like southern Fl. Get an aluminum trailer with good brakes (~1000 lbs). Your biggest issues will be stopping and accident avoidence. Keep plenty of room between you and the guy in front. I tow a 29' Sea Vee approximately 10,000 miles/year.

I tow a 27' Rinker with a 02' Tundra 4x4. My truck is rated like yours but my boat & trailer weigh in at about 10k. My insurance will not cover me if I wreck this combination. I only trailer it about 5 miles to the ramp & there is very little traffic to be concerned with but even so, I am careful not to scratch up my expensive toy. I figure the insurance is only for fire, theft & flying debris.

I have been towing a KeyWest 2300 WA with twin F115's for the past two years with the old style Tundra and a 4.7. With good brakes on your trailer, you should be fine...

Sure wish I was gettin that boat!! Just looked at one this weekend at the Tampa boat show, man it was sweet and priced pretty good.

Thank you for the replies guys. I might also install some good towing airbags to help a bit.

It seems like It will work. I really love the truck and don't want to get rid of it, I have added a few things to it, and it will also be paid off in a couple of months.

you should get a different insurance company. They should cover you for anything that your truck is trailering. Now, if you get in an accident and someone comes after you in a civil lawsuit, you only would be covered up to the limits of the policy, but you can't be denied coverage - especially if you are within towing capacity limits.
