I have an Access Cab/X-tra cab truck. Back seat, while good for kids, not so great for adults.

Anyone use the Bedryder? http://bedryder.com/

Every now and then I'll take a group to the boat ramp and it would be nice to have 2 more people in the bed in those seats.

$800? Let them take their own car to the ramp!

i know it says they're legal, but i wonder how many times you would be pulled over and have to explain that they are legal.

I'm thinking $800 is a decent price as I know kids would love to ride in the bed like I used to do when younger and it was legal. My first ride was on a flat bed pickup truck, my childhood friend sat on a toolbox and me on a spare tire.

I agree, there could be many pull-overs but I think with the boat behind me it might help, plus, in a way, I would not mind.

Well.. I wont debate the safety of two people in the back of the truck, that's more or less convertible equivalent and see other thread about all the things we did as kids that are too dangerous today.

...but I don't think I'd be carrying any passengers back there while towing a boat. That really seems like a bad idea, unless your tow is 2 miles down a country road.

Thing is, I want the kids to drive because I want to ride back there.

I kinda thought the same thing. Last summer wife and I were on our way to a marina and passed a pick up with two teenagers in the bed, unrestrained (Virginia), and towing a boat. First thing I thought was what if he has to stop hard or, worse, hits something. That boat is going to try to climb over the bow roller. curious - I slowed down to get a better look; the boat didn't even have a single tie down strap.

Knuckleheads.

I have had the BedRyder for a couple of years now, and have to say I absolutely love it. Like their add says, the kids fight over who gets to ride back there. And now I effectively have a 7 passenger vehicle.
Another nice thing about it is the ride back from the beach, the real sandy kids go back there.
Honestly the only thing I didn't love was the price.
Hope this helps

nobody will want to ride back there unless the entire bed is clean of any debris.

Unless the riders like to be sandblasted.
