Why no rebuild kits for trailer brake calipers? Seems like you have to buy a loaded caliper just to get new pistons or pads ? I'd like to rebuild my calipers and just replace the pads.
Is this just not done ?

It's not done because the calipers end up being heavily rusted, the cylinders heavily scored, pitted and pistons siezed inside them from rust / corrosion.

What brand of brakes do you have?

All the raving on the forum aside about how great Kodiaks are and how much Tie Downs suck, I went with Kodiaks on my new trailer because they use GM automotive brake pads. You can get the pads at any auto supply house.

The Tie Down pads are probably only available from Tie Down.

As mentioned in the reply above, it's probably not worth the hassle to rebuild calipers because of corrosion issues.

They are available at auto parts stores.

I stand corrected.

The Tie Down web site made no mention of which pads are used, unless I missed it.

Kodiak's web site tells you which pads are compatible.

Thanks guys, I was looking for the rebild kits for the calipers and did actually find a part number for them. I also found the info on what pads to get if you go to an auto parts store. 1990 Caviler. If I could swap for Kodiak I would, but the torsion arms/ flanges are 4 bolt, and the hubs are 12" 6 bolt, and Kodiak does not make a replacement for that combination.

I'm just going to replace everything with new and move on. Thanks for the help !
