Good shots Mark. Looks like blue/white was the right choice. How much did it weigh?

Tommy we gilled and gutted the fish on the boat. He scaled 125 at the dock probably somewhere around 165-170. 66-67 inches

Dave we couldn't stand it it was a little choppy and breezy but was fish-able. Yes I am ready to go again it was a good day on the water.

We ran down to the 280 out of OI but after no action we headed north. We caught our fish at the 390 60 fathoms. 3 hookups 2 fish kept one released one. Two of the three were a double and we were glad one escaped!! :grin:Headed back to the dock at 1:00. The one we kept was 66-67 inches..Mark

Alex there were more than I thought would be out. Not many small boats mostly charters and larger privates. We probably saw thirty-forty boats between the 280-390...Mark

I was in Kitty Hawk/Nags Head Saturday and it appeared to be a bit sporty. The water in the pics doesn't look as bad as I thought it would have been.

Nice Catchin' !!!

Nice catch! Blue/white and pink/white were the colors yesterday for sure. We fished close to 1250 rocks. The best quote I heard yesterday on the radio was "It's like shooting elephants with a BB gun out here with these 50 class reels". We had a couple of good hookups that broke off and a few short strikes, all on Blue Water Candy jags and horse hoos. I had a Penn 50 TW on WWB with a pink headed all white skirt jag that had line stripping from the reel more than it has ever seen. We ran half our spread with black/purple and pink/white for the other in the morning. Changed over to blue/white pink/white after lunch and had more strikes. All of our bites where between the 350 and 450 line and in 64 degree water. Saw a nice one at the docks at Teach's, but wasn't sure if it was the same boat.

Yea we are not fishing in 90ft of water here so its easy for a fish to take you to school. We put the first fish in the boat in 50minutes and had the second released in about 40 minutes. It sure is fun and takes a lot of boat work in a CC to stay up and down on the fish. Blue and white and blue and pink for us. But they probably would have eaten any color yesterday......Mark

Hope to have the video done within the next few weeks. Great footage. Dave I thought we might have seen you out there Sunday. Make sure you use the first or second span south of the main span make a quick right after you go under the bridge. Then go at least a few hundred feet then turn to the first green can to get around the shoal. It is like a beach a few hundred ft in front of the main span......Mark

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to drag my boat down to your great state to go bluefin fishing and I've been watching the weather lately to try to get a feel for the forecast vs. actual conditions.

I've been seeing a lot of 6' at 9ish; is that fishable in a 30' boat? Are there wind directions to be careful of?

I will likely be putting in at OI.

thanks for any help.

Would you normally fish offshore in 6' @ 9sec? I would not, but maybe you have a different tolerance for pain! In reality, trying to fish in those seas will be very difficult.

Regarding wind direction, if it's blowing NE, be prepared for a very ugly inlet, especially on an outgoing tide.

Honestly, I would wait for a 4' or less forecast with a period exceeding 6 seconds. Everyone will have more fun.

Actually, I might. Weather forecasts have a regional "flavor" and in my area, very often 6' approaching 10 secs is a long period swell even though the forecast will not state that.

Thank you, as that's just the type of intel I'm looking for.

Fair enough.

Out of OI in the winter, my observation is that the conditions are often worse than forecasted when they call for light winds.

The fish have been moving north but if you were to run down to the tower the seas can be really messy just from the gulfstream and the labrador currents coming together as well.

All that said, once you're hooked up it makes it all worthwhile.
