Looks like fun to me. Low budget and not hi tech.
Poeple were catching huge fish with hand lines out of canoes and dugouts long before the days of high powerd boats and electronics. I bet if you took 90% of the current fisherman and gave them the same
equipment used even 50 years ago they would be too scared to leave the dock.
Do whatever it takes to turn you crank!

Don't poke fun of jug fishing because we have actually started to go a little more high tech. A lot refer to it as "noodling" instead of jug fishing because short pieces of the floating swimming pool noodles are used instead of jugs or bottles. That way you have a flourescent piece of noodle poking up when you get one :)

My favorite is bush hooking though. Put a line on the smallest green limb you can find on the bank (strategically placed of course) that you would swear would never hold a big catfish but it will. Haven't done it in a while but it's good clean fun!

We use to take our Dad jugging some years ago. Really a fun time and a sure way to fill the live well with allot of catfish. Set 100 floats, find 90 of them with about 50 cats and the other 10 were headed up stream at a good idle speed. Chased several for miles and these were always the 5 to 15 pound fish.

Skin the gar and cut head off.
Place on board in oven preheated to 375 and bake for 30 min.
Remove from oven and cover with tinfoil for 10 min.
Remove from tinfoil.
Take the gar off board and throw in trash can.
Eat the board.

There is nothing wrong with fishing like that, a lot of folks used to do that back in the day. I remember crabbing and fishing and even wading through water up to our necks in the spillway to catch crawfish. I was cheap and was also a lot of fun. We used to camp out and cook it all up and drink cheap beer all night, good clean fun and I am glad to see kids still do that. Some folks forget what it is like to be young I guess.

This thread reminds me of a story. A couple years back my sister invites her new boyfriend, a real city slicker to a get together at the lake. the boyfriend keeps saying he wants to see gators so my brother loads about 10 of us on the pontoon boat, boyfriend in front and heads for a slue with about 50 gators in it. As my brother is driving the boat he starts stomping his foot on the plywood deck and when the boyfriend ask whats that noise my brother says don't worry we are just bumping small gators. Then he stomps his foot hard and says, I think something is wrong with the steering and runs the boat up on a bank with a few mid sized gators laying on it and of course they jump up and run for the water right next to the front of the boat. The boyfriend about Shitz his pants and almost broke the railing getting to the back of the boat leaving my sister just sitting there. He was a cool guy and we all got a good laugh but my sister ragged him all weekend about being so affraid and leaving her to get eaten. Its all about where your from and what you are used to.

By the way the last photo was after the axle snapped pulling the boat up the ramp, we managed to get the engines, boat, and trailer in the back of my truck for the 5 minute ride home... again im not saying we were brilliant, but had a lot of fun.

The story behind that rig is as follows: Our senior year of college a friend of ours gave us the boat and trailer for free, we just needed some power. My roommates grandfather had some old non-running 6 horse evinrudes in the basement he gaves us. We pulled off the lower unit on the first one, replaced the water pump/lower unit oil, rebuilt the carb, replaced the plugs and the fuel pump and got it running. But of course a single six horse wasnt very fast. So we then did the same to the second, mounted them on the back and cut a wooden dowel to length for a suitable tie-bar so they steered together. One engine had a three blade prop, the other a two, but oddly enough you could sync them by sound easily and the boat hummed along way better than we expected. The whole project was a joke, but we still use the skiff rigged like that.

Since this thread is slowly turning into a "post pictures of dumb things you've done" thread, I will add some pictures of the process. We did not have a garage in the house we rented to we used the sun room as our garage, and thought if we opened up the glass door we could start the engine up inside, it reeked like two stroke exhaust for days. A lot of beers were involved in this.

Also the pond we liked to fish on didnt have a launch ramp, so the venerable old toyota had to use what mother nature provided...

Again, I cannot stress this enough, I am not saying any of this was smart.

Oh God, Joe, who that's worth a damn was "smart" at that age? I'm loving it all....the tie bar, the launch ramp, the two blade and three blade synched by ear and feel....but MOSTLY I love your engine stand, including that black "reservoir support structure" on the floor. (Poor damn landlord, or your poor damn damage deposit, one of the two.) Yeah, a lot of beer.

BTW, my friend's 12 had a Johnnie 15 three-blade on it and moved pretty smart. My initial look at your first pix, of the motors straight on, made me think they were larger....pair of 9.9 or 15 or some such. A pair of sixes is almost reasonable.

Ha! Thanks, i did not mean to derail the thread, just wanted to show the naysayers that bored guys up north find their way into interesting fishing missions as well...
Though I am now contemplating a pictorial essay of all the weird and stupid things we did on the water while at URI as a thread.

Back to the orginal topic, that jug fishing still looks like a lot of fun!

The main problem is the whole world can view these videos, and may not realize this is a very small minority. Do they have classes for dumb where these people live or is it inherited. Then they have to video tape and post it.
My previous post was directed at 805 Gregg. Whats your problem?

:rofl:it's spelled ya'll (pronounced yaalll), i have 3 homes in three different states and a 10th floor condo on the beach, i can assure you that none of them have wheels. I prefer to live down here so that i can get a natural tan and not have to go to a paint booth for one, that and it was 64 today. Also b/c i have a good paying job that allowed me to fish in the GOM all weekend with a short sleeve shirt and a windbreaker on. And they aren't asking the government for anything. (yes, that is an assumption)
They "created" another way to generate cash.
They have 141 uploads to youtube. She has a following.
Sexy women can sell almost anything.
She seems to be a down home girl, enjoying the out of doors.
They do a nice job of filming and editing also. (Wonder if they use GoPro?)

I showed this to a friend of mine that is a gun collector and just moved home from Alaska. He sold almost everything before he moved and is setting up a new home from scratch and has no art for the walls so I think we are going to try the spray can art this weekend. If we do I will post photos

DAMN YOU, man! You stole my post. I was just scrolling down to say that when I saw yours. I was gonna do a little different, reply to Heather's and tell her if she really was Heather, then welcome to THT and I'm really diggin' their stuff. If, however, she was one of us with a new temp username, than roll in the dirt and die, etc.

I have to respectfully disagree on the spelling. It is a contraction of "you all", and thus should be y'all. The rest of your post is spot on.

Hey Heather, welcome to a great site that just so happens to have a LOT of elitest pricks who think their high-dollar boat makes them special.

Like you said, just gotta ignore those kind and enjoy the good guys on here who love boats & fishing.

As soon as ESPN or MTV gets wind of this Juggers will get their own TV show.

Ain't nothing wrong with catching catfish, guess I will have to go buy some fillets at the store so we can have a fish fry tonight.
