I just bought one of those bass hunter type things (Pelican). It suits my needs, but the guy I bought it from didn't have a title, etc. He just putzed around in a pond...I want to get out and about so I need to register it. So, what kind of nightmare is the Florida DMV going to put me through. I didn't even get a receipt but I'm pretty sure I can. HELP!

get a form to transfer a vessel with lost title if your state provides otherwise, have the last guy file for a lost title and then when he gets it sign it over to you

LOL DOES NOT WORK ----been there done that @ St. Cloud FL-- wait until you try to register a trailer w/o a title-- after unloading my Toon to get the trailer weighted I was told it only weight 600lbs and FL doe NOT give a title unless over 5000 lbs this took a day-- let me know how the Bass Hunter works -- I am looking at one for the Mosiquto Lagoon

does the boat have HIN # or old registration #s on it??

are you still in contact with the seller?

Eyehooker trailers that weigh above 2000 lbs in florida have titles, below that just FL registration

The assumption on a boat with no title is that is stolen. Each state is different, so you will have to contact the agency in your state that titles boats and ask them how to get a title.

Sometimes, it's worthwile to pay a title service to do it for you. They know the "ropes".

Here is a link to the Fl DMV forms.

If the guy you bought from is the original owner, you may have some success. If not, you may be SOL/

I was at the DMV office yesterday. Guy next to me wanted to transfer ownership of a truck he had just purchased. All he had was a sloppily written note. Seller wasn't with him, no title, no registration, no nothing other than a note. Didn't work out very well for him.

If it is more than 25 years old, or so, there probably never was a title. My 1984 skiff came without a title. If someone buys mine, all they will get is a bill of sale. My guess is that in NY if I went to the DMV with a bill of sale for an out of state boat listed as being 30 years old, that I could get it registered with no difficulty.

in florida if you have bill of sale you can sign affidavit that HIN # is not available and that boat is not stolen, and get it registered

Creating a title in florida is the worst. You can register it in GA online, then bring it to Florida with that title. It will save you a lot of the time with the nightmare florida DMV... Cost you a little more but definitely worth it.

Yeah, 10-4 on the nightmare. Its a freak show in there, but the line moves amazingly well and I have to say the people working the counters have the patience of Job.

All I need is a bill of sale and an affidavit from the seller saying he never titled it because it was only used in a private pond or some gibberish like that

So, looks good. What a cool little ride for the lagoon...can't beat it.

I once registered a trailer that I rescued from a back yard and rebuilt' There were no readable numbers on it and no paperwork. I registered it as a "HMT" or Home Made Trailer
using my driver's license number for a VIN. Maybe that could be done with a boat.

do you have register a boat if going to use an electric motor? I know in WV under 3 HP do not have to register
