I have gone to show since I was about 12 years old. I remember when the show was a showcase for new boats like the Pacemaker Turbine. The change of dates last year was important and with the economy getting better I hope it will be bigger and better this year.

I purchased my ticket in November and you can still get great online deals.

I've gone to the boat every other year or so for the past 10. Every year I leave there saying...............I'm never going back.
The # of vendors has gone WAY down hill every year. It's just not worth it.

I do wish we saw more variety for example WorldCat is not at the show and almost no sail boats are at the show. You could have a whole section of wind suffers, kayaks, canoes and small sail boats.

Last year's wasn't - now that they have no way to haul and move bigger boats, AC is pretty lame too.
If you really want to go to a big show, it is either Ft. Lauderdale, Miami or San Diego, in that order. From the NE, Miami is a bear, because it is Presidents Day weekend, and travel is very expensive - Ft. Lauderdale is the last weekend of October and travel is dirt cheap. I fly down to the Lauderdale show just about every year just fot the day - 6:00 am flight down, 7:30 p.m flight back ($170), a $15 cab ride each way to the Convention Center, and either the free shuttle bus or $10 water taxi to the other venues (Bahia Mar or Pier 66).

I always thought it was pretty stupid to have a boat show in the middle of a major metro area. Just think of how much it cost a company to exhibit there. Having a boat show that's not on the water is just stupid.

Yeah but for northerners Miami in February is a lot nicer than Ft. Lauderdale in October. I got my flights for $229 roundtrip.
Unfortunately both the NY and AC Shows have shrunk significantly over the last few years. Big difference between Dealer shows (NY / AC) and Manufacturers shows like Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. But hey, its still a day out to see boats and fishing gear!
I'll probably go to the NY show one night after work. Not really much of a show these days but going after work it's not too far out of my way and one of the dealers already sent me a free ticket. I used to like going to the AC show but last time I went a couple years ago almost felt like it was a wasted drive now that they aren't bringing the larger boats. Annapolis is my favorite show within driving distance of NY but even that wasn't the same this year.

There are still a ton of vendors there just not as many.... AC show sucks now. It runs on average a company that doesnt have large boats aprox 80,000 to participate in a display.
From what I hear a few of the larger boat manufacturers are not going to be there again this year last year i think 5 were missing

There are pluses and minuses - the pluses: there are 19 million people who live within a one hour mass transit trip, inlcding 4 million who live or work in manhattan - that's a bigger potential audience than anywhere else in the USA by a factor of at least 3; it actually is no more expensive to rent exhibition space there than in Atlantic City - logistically it is more expensive to get gear there though. The minuses - NY is not the boating local Florida is; it is indoors in NYC, so the size of the boats is limited to what can be trailered in with special permits, which is 15' wide and about 48' long; it is not supported by any of the manufacturers, so the ability to talk with electronics (or any accessories) reps is non-existant.

I used to go every year when we lived in NJ, it was a great way to spend the day. When I was in college a buddy of mine and I would get all dressed up and pretend to be young Wall St. hot shots looking to buy a $500k sport fish, eventhough the reality was we could barely afford the the boatshow itself. We thought it was funny to get some salesman for Viking or Ocean all worked up over a big sale. Looking back maybe we shouldn't have done that.
I wish they would have kept the show durring Christmas week though. We always head back to NJ for Christmas, but now can't go to the show anymore.

There will be big boats at the Show.
Our largest Regal will be the 46 Sport Coupe. Unfortunately, we can't bring the 52 because we currently have only one finished boat in our Orlando showroom and it is under contract. Two are currently under construction but won't be ready in time for NY.
We are bringing a total of nine boats and will be introducing our "never seen before" 35 Sport Coupe. Wait 'til you see this one.
Looking forward to great show.

I like the NY Show and find it a fun inexpensive day.
They had some fairly large boats last year but the lack of vendors was not great.
The Holidays are over and its cold out great way to spend a few hours looking at boats.
I plan to see the new 300 HP Yamaha any thing else new to see?

Check this out, heading for the New York Javits boat show, Marine Max "makeover" boat. Boat is a few years old. Half the boat has new upholstery, half has hardwood flooring, half new canvas, half teak on the platform, etc.
The guys at Marine Max did their thing and we obviously did the paint.

I happen to be up here in the NYC area today for a few days and I'm at a hotel in E. Rutherford/Teterboro. What would be the best way for me to get there on public transit? Bus to Port Authority? Then walk? Keep in mind I'm a Florida guy without much tollerence of the cold. I can't really see how the weather looks as my room window is iced over, but i'm pretty sure I don't want to spend too much time outside.

Port impterial ferry.........few miles from your door in E Ruth to where the ferry is located in Weehawkin. The ferry takes you from Weehawkin directly across the river to the Javits. Very simple and probably the most popular way to go to the show from Jersey!

Hey guys,
I just left the Javits Center after setting up our booth I walked around the show. It really looks like its gonna be a good one this year.
I also just wanted to tell anyone who is going to the show that if you stop by the Marine Plastic Innovations booth and you mention this post or that you are a THT member, you will recieve a 10% discount on anything you order and also you will get a set of free PlasDECK coasters.
The coasters are while supplies last so I am saving them for THT members and clients. Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

Oh we are booth 829, the best way to say where we are is we are in the room with the yamaha's and the grady whites, we are the second row and second booth in if you are walking into the show and looking from right to left? does that make sense?
What easier coming from Long Island -
Drive to take the LIRR and the subway -

The other simple and cheap option ($2.50 vs. $7 for a cab, which might save you 1-2 minutes - it is only 900 yards from the LIRR exit at 33rd St & 8th Ave to the Javitz at 35th St & 12th Ave) is the NYC bus it runs down 34th street and stops at every block before it dumps you off at the Javitz center.
There are no subways from Penn to the Javitz.

I actually live in E. Rutherford and was just trying to figure out the same thing. I'm going on Friday, and may drive into Hoboken (meeting a friend that lives there) and park in a garage there around 14th St, then take the ferry over from 14th St in Hoboken to Javits. (Unfortunately, the ferry from the Hoboken Train Station doesn't go to 39th St. in Manhattan, which would make things very easy.) :banghead:
Other options include bus to Port Authority, or NJT train to Penn Station (catch a train at Woodbridge Station or Rutherford, switch trains in Secaucus to Penn). Buses outside of rush hour can be slow, as they don't have thier dedicated lanes going into the Lincoln Tunnel. As others have mentioned, it's not that far a walk from either PA or Penn, and there are buses.
PM me if you think you'd like to go Friday and maybe we can head in together.
BTW, latest weather forecast looks like it may be messy Friday morning (3-6" of snow).

Man, the NY boat show is alot different than those in Florida. I have to say that it was funny to hear people talking boats with a NY accent. Also in FL we generally don't walk all over boats with dark shoes, but up here it seemed common.
All in all, it was a great day and a good distraction from looking at the walls in my room.

Smallest NYC show that I've been to in the past 20 years I've gone. But, it's always fun. The 32 yellowfin there was sweet. Can't wait for Miami in February!

It is bigger than 2009 & 2010 were.
For those of us old enough to have gone to and remember the show when it was at the New York Coliseum and was a manufacturers show (like Miami) - it went to the Javitz Center in 1986 and the mfg's dropped out - it will always be a dissapointingly small show.

But you're right, it is nothing like it once was 20-40 years ago

I took photos but can't directly upload to this site.
I hate the hassle of having to upload to photo site and then link.
I did it but really think that in today's world of mega file servers, THT should provide for direct upload.

I did not take a photo of the Boston Whaler 345 Conquest
It has the best cabin of all the express outboards in the class. It was powered with 3 300's and was priced at $350,000.
http://bostonwhaler.com/Page.aspx/pageId/29330/pmid/204633/345-Conquest.aspx#.
It was with kind of hidden to the southeast corner of the show.

I don't own one or have any association just think its layout is better than a Grady 33 or a Scott or anything else in the class. With a hull test speed of 53 MPH I also think it is the fastest boat of its class.

I thought the show was better than last year and the attendance was up. They had a lift this year and more vendors. The wall for roof repairs sure did hurt the dealers on the north side of the wall. I don't remember seeing Fountain or Bertram? Brunswick was a big part of the show as it is every year. In addtion Honda was not at the show this year and has been in previous years. It seems like Honda is giving up on the outboard business?
I wish this boat was at the show:

This was a really good show. I'm told the best in years by several exhibitors. We were consistently busy. I made one quick walk around the floor and that was it.
Thanks to those who stopped by. Sorry I missed some and that I didn't get around like I wanted to. Next time.
