Wife was asking about stocking stuffer gifts and being that I'm new to offshore fishing and have no trolling lures I thought that would be a good idea. So I need some suggestions on popular lures trolling SE Fla. for dolphin, tuna, kings, sails etc. Try to keep it reasonable, given the fact that I got a new to me boat, and new rods and reels this year, if I suggest a $100 lure I'll just wind up with underwear and socks :bashhh: . Cedar plugs, dolphin jrs., pink sea witch, skirts, are some of the names I remember from the past. Whats your go to lure?

Hard to beat pink/white, blue/white, or chartreuse/green seawitches. Simple and effective. Bigger dolphin like bigger lures like ilanders (same colors), squid daisy chains, etc.

Dolphin weenies are easy to pull and make ...... no brainer

They're easy to make ........
Dolphin Weenies are the hottest bait for an artificial bait that you can pull. When tipped with a Uncle Josh white pork strip they are deadly on all sizes of dolphin. From the small peanut dolphin up to the 50 pounders. Weenies also work on many other species of offshore fish such as yellowfin tuna and sailfish. The good thing about the Dolphin Weenies is that you aren't pulling a natural bait that you have to worry about the fish taking the bait off of the hook. A fish will continue to come after the Dolphin Weenie until it gets the hook. You don't have to worry if your bait is pulling straight or not. The Weenie always pulls straight. We make our Dolphin Weenie rigs using 10 to 12 ft. of 80 lb. mono, a 4 1/2 inch octopus skirt with a 1/2 oz. egg weight in the head, and a Mustad 3407SS 6/0 hook.

My dorado killers. These guys. About 6" in length. Or anything very bright, particularly a Mex flag pattern.

Like Miss Trial said........ green machine is probably # 1
You can get them to hit anything from a $ 1.50 duster skirt to a $ 150 Black Bart
I like the green / green orange / pink blue / blue white lures mostly for the dolphin personally.
Here are a few examples.......

Honestly, it doesn't seem to matter very much. When they get a little bit picky (very seldom), we've done better on a naked split bill ballyhoo on very light leader than anything else.

once you start bailing them, shut off the engines and go deep. Let the lures and baits sink.Thats where the bull and cows will be.bayhoo rocks

done well with the Dr. T's needlefish lure. Its also caught sails/tuna/even a blue marlin. They're the pointed ones in middle of pic in green/yellow skirts.

Universally, at least on the Gulf Coast, the blue and white illander is just the common one that always is in every spread and can be relied on.

better rig that first lure K&G showed with some wire...it's been known to catch a wahoo. In fact, Jetty Jay's lure came back in pieces after the first wahoo hit last year

Thanks for all the suggestions. I went with a couple weenies, blue/white islander, and a plain cedar plug. Now I just have to wait till Christmas to try them :tht_rulez:.

I have fished dolphin for 40 years....nothin seems to beat either (a) C&H aliens in blue/white or (b) Islander blue/black/white. Rigged to pull ballyhoo, no pin necessary, 8/0 hook with copper wire crimped.
