In my HDS 10 with a 83/200 and Structure Lowrance advised it did not matter which was selected and Generic was fine. Not sure why all the selections are available in it if the unit is able to auto recognize what settings to use. Mine seems to work fine on Generic but I still wonder if it would work better with another setting.

There should be a silver tag near the plug on the back of the unit. I suggest setting your unit to match with the specific transducer you are using.

As tcm stated, I have the 7m and 7 combo with the ethernet cable and the 7m has the capability now to use sonar as well.

FWIW - Airmar transducers (at least the B60) has the ID tag near the transducer end
