Had a phone call yesterday from a broker who saids he has a buyer for my boat pending sea trail and condition of the boat. The problem is,is that my bank has no locations in the southeast area of Florida. The broker said he could take care of all the paper work and that we did not need the bank. I still owe money on the loan. I don't want something to go wrong and I'm left holding the bag. I have the money for the differents owed on the boat.
What should I do????

I live in Orlando and the broker wants to meet in Fort Pierce. The broker is from Delray Beach. Will try and get some more info later.

if the broker is serious and the buyer is serious then they come where the boat is, you dont go to them. I would call the bank and ask what had to be done, or i would ask the broker to explain in detail maybe over an email how he was going to do the sale then forward to your bank and have somebody look over what he has planned. But no way am i taking th eboat to someone to sea trail, if they want it they will come to you to see it.

ditto...if the buyer is serious he will come to you. long trip when the buyer has not even stepped foot on your boat yet.

I agree jaymiller. The broker was suppose to call me this morning, but no word from him yet. What is so strange about this deal is he is charging me $4000.00 commission to sell the boat. Now understand there is no contract with him he called me out of the blue. If he does call me back I will make some changes to his offers. If he does not, life goes on. I want to sell the boat, but not have my butt kicked either.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There aint no way some broker is going to charge me $1 much less $4000 dollars unless i hired him. if he is buying it for someone else or is working for someone else then they can pay the money. or like when a broker comes to buy a house with clients you can split the commission and only pay him half, but persoanlly i would say &$#^ no. that could all be worked out with you the broker and the buyer, but something sounds a little fishy to me.
but i hope it all works out, remember you have what they want not the other way around!!

I agree 100 percent. I have decided if he does call me back the shoe is going to be on the other foot. I'm ok with the payments on my boat and can out last this for as long as I need too until the right buyer comes along. The comission he can collect it from the buyer and not me.
Thanks for the advise BodieTaylor. And your right, something does sound a little fishy. I'll get into more detail tomorrow if I hear from him.

Just heard back from the broker by email. He said he is waiting on a response back from the buyer. Problem is, I haven't agreed on anything yet. Going to email him back with my offer. He can either take it or walk.

I would be more concerned not to end up with:
no boat
$45,500 bounced check
out $4,000
Make sure broker is legit, remember they contacted you, and are paying you more than your asking price....thats classic scam recipe.

First of all I would like to thank Bob for calling me and listening and answering my questions. Bob you a stand up guy and a big help. Thank you very much for all the info.
The name of the company is National Powerboats. Probably a stand up company for all I know. I have decided not to do the deal with them.
