Does anyone go on Saginaw Bay with a 17' Boston Whaler?
I am looking at older Boston Whaler 17' boats and wonder if they are suited for use in Saginaw Bay. I've been out off the bay for 15 years due to summer commitments, but I do know it can get rough very quickly. I never went out in anything over 2-3 foot waves in my 18" Starcraft open bow, and don't intend to now. I would also use the the boat to fish inland lakes, large and small. Most of my fishing is done with one or two other great pretenders.
I will have a small "kicker" motor for backup, a sea anchor/drift sock, and radios for security.

Thanx for any input.

I would think if you pick your days you would be just fine. Like anything use common sense. You're right though that bay can kick up in a hurry and get real nasty.

That 17 whaler will take more than you can. I know of a nice early '80's Whaler, 19 footer or so up in Cheboygan with Twin Rude 90's on it. Nice looking well cared for boat. Just wasn't my cup of tea. PM me if you are interested and I can send his number to you. I can call first to see if it is still for sale. (Up there in June last. Nice older gentleman selling it)

My brother runs his 16' Cc Outrage all over Saginaw Bay and out of Port Austin for Salmon. No problems.
