I just bought a 441s and the G2 card. I have only had the chance to play with it once but it seemed pretty cool. It gives you a view like you are underwater just behind the boat. You can change angles to go either up or down as far as your perspective. I have never owned a unit like this so I can't really compare it to anything else. I got the $200 rebate so that is the only reason I bought it. Only ended up costing me $47.

In the FIsh Eye view if you're using your embedded sonar you will see your sonar display along with all the other data.

Tom, in the 2nd to the last picture, what does the number 111 on the left of the depth scale signify?

I've used it on a 535s with a G2 Vision. It looks very neat and useful but I wonder if it doesn't give some false sense of security.

Hi BWP,

I have been reading all of your threads and I am very impressed with your knowledge and your willingness to share. I would appreciate any info you can lend with a few questions that I have with my current Garmin network.

I have a 4212, GSD-22, and a G2 card that I purchased when they first came out in 2006.
I would like to know your opinion on the following.

Is the processer in my 4212 slower and less capable of the units being sold today?
She seems to be getting bogged down quite a bit with all the updates that Garmin keeps putting out.

Do I need a new G2, or am I still good just by staying current with the updates?

Thanks again for helping out.

Dale

Dale ......

The newer stuff has faster processors and dynmaic ram but your equipment is more than adequate. Just make sure you keep it update by applying the software updates. There is a new version of the G2 charts that you can download from the Garmin webite.

I've looked at it on my 4212 with 2010 g2 vision. In my view, it's more of a marketing feature than anything useful to a fisherman.

Sure, some areas will have a dazzling display of bottom structure, but I can read the same info in much simpler formats a lot quicker by looking at the batthy lines, the water patterns, and using the fishfinder. It's also true that most of the areas covered by the charts don't have the level of detail that bwp shows above. Only a few do. It is very area specific.

I find the detailed bathy charts more useful in planning than execution. The problem is it isn't easy to use as a planning tool, it's designed to be real time.

If you like it, great, it doesn't help me at all, but I use it occasionally just to see if I'm wrong about it.

Offshore I use it and love it, inshore I don't use it at all.
