John,

I wanted to pick up a cast-friendly casting reel for striper fishing up here in new england. I'll be using it from the boat to throw surface plugs and the like. Probably 20lb. line. I have a nice spiral wrapped local hooker rod to pair with it.

I tried an Avet SX (not the MC) and liked the reel, but I can't constantly cast well without knotting up the braid. I was thinking the Avet SX with MC?

Thoughts?

I think I already spoke to you and you purchased this but sorry for this delayed response if I have you mistaken with someone else. SX MC 5.3 is absolutely the way to go. The freespool on the reel is amazing and it casts with ease!! The reel is also very versatile and should be used for your bottom fishing applications and chunking. The sale is still on and we have them for $199.99 instead of $239.99 in the SX MC! Thanks man and have a great weekend.
