WTF?!? Whats wrong with people. "I can't.. I have to work"... blah blah blah. People need to get their priorities in order. This is too pretty to not go. Exactly how foolish would it be to go offshore alone?

Offshore - alone - with a single engine boat, a i/o to boot... Man you're about to get hung out to dry with that post!

I go out with a single engine all the time. Have been out 85 miles one way in the gulf. BUT NEVER alone. Too much can happen.

I might just go look for some cobia.

Engine was given a thorough lookover by cummins last weekend, the IO oil was changed a few days ago and I check everything religiously. I have radio and backup radio, and there is a crap ton of boats going off today and tomorrow... its reasonably safe. What I *DONT* like is lack of a kill switch. I'd probably wear my offshore pfd that autodeploys the whole time.

You guys are so sensitive... most commercial boats are single engine

I routinely am 70 miles out in the gulf, 26 footer, by myself (or my dog). I dont see any problem with it if you're not doing anything outright stupid.

If you were a little further north I would def jump aboard, or at least follow you out in my boat

I was being facetious in case you didn't get it..

Seriously, I wouldn't have an issue if thats what I wanted to do.. Been offshore more times in a single outboard than I have on a boat with twins, by a lot...

Game for tomorrow? Got a few rods as well?

Full disclosure: I'm relatively new to offshore fishing so I can't promise a non-skunked trip...

I've got 4 rods, and 2 spinning rods right now

I've fished offshore here for more than 25 years. Never owned a boat with twins. I've always felt that issue was way overblown.

Way overblown. I go offshore all the time by myself cause all my friends are pussies and don't want to get up at 5am. As long as you have a life jacket and a kill switch your good to go. Oh plus an EPIRB.

I was planning to head out of Port Canaveral or Ponce since I live about halfway between them. The buoyweather forecast has changed a little, claling for "breezy whitecaps", 2-3', 15-20 winds. May end up bagging it and fishing inshore.

Yeah, who wants to live forever anyway! Seriously,, if you're in decent shape, don't try anything stupid, like hanging off the stern on top of your I/O trying to unfoul a line from your prop,,, you should be good to go,, besides most guys whine like a baby after a few hours without the "little woman" who wants to listen to that! just run three lines out the back, put the fourth on a downrigger and go fishing. Keep a spinning rod rigged with a crab bait for the cobia, and enjoy your life!!

What else are you going to have to think about while sitting in a wheelchair with drool running down your face and some big black nurse,, reminding you to " hurry ups and eats cause I got childrens to feed at home."

I was on my way out for the Tuna last Sunday....Somthing wasn't right when I got up, I had to make the call a no go..Man, it looked nice on the water but I just felt like shit...My appendix ruptured later in the day and I had emergency surgury. I'm recovering as we speak. Most pain I have ever exp. Thank god it didn't rupture off shore............

Been there, done that. I have a list that's about 20 names long of people I call to go fishing. I've only reached the end one time and not found someone to go. That one time, I posted on the NC forum here and found a THT guy that wanted to go. Before I got my boat, a guy on here posted in the carolina forum about needing crew. I contacted him and away we went. He's now one of my best fishing buddies. I wouldn't hesitate to use someone on THT to take fishing. Good luck if you do go

I could navigate back with a ruptured appendix I think :). I broke my back in a few places on a motocross track and trail rode about 5 miles to the paramedics once. That was quite painful lol

good luck on the recovery. What did the rupture feel like? Sharp/dull/general/acute/searing pain??

In my case, the rupture felt like nothing.....it was the part leading up to it that was the bitch. Woke up in the middle of the night, doubled over, screaming my ass off. Felt like someone had stuck hot knives into the right side of my abdomen and every once in awhile they would reach up and shake one or stick it in a little further and then pull it back. The pain was acute and searing, never went away, just got more intense occasionally. As for when it actually ruptured, not quite sure if it was on the way to the OR or once on the table. I just know it hurt and after surgery it was all good and when I questioned the doc, he just said that it had ruptured.

The body is an amazing machine and can do incredible things when it comes to self preservation and survival. I have had many motorcycle and mountain bike accidents resulting in several broken bones ( collar bone 6 times, all my ribs at some time or another and pins in my wrist) and always managed to get myself to wherever I needed to go and walk into the ER under my own power.

The way I look at going boating by yourself, it's no big deal if you are well prepared and use your noodle. I'm getting one of the auto tethers after seeing it, seems like a no brainer. Sometimes, I think being by yourself and being well prepared is safer than being with someone else that has no clue and your responsible for them as well. With my other half, she thinks the boat is a tanning platform and transportation to the islands or waterfront restraunts. She's good at loading and unloading the boat, but once we leave the dock, I'm on my own.....one of the primary reasons I got a boat that I could handle easily by myself.

Sorry for the hijack. Got a crew together for Saturday. Trolling for phins out of Port Canaveral.

Runabout - scary stuff. Sometimes making the no-go call is tough. I've learned it usually the right one.

Me and a lot of guys set up our businesses down here in the Keys 'cause we like to boat and fish so much. Guess what? Now most of us are so busy with the businesses, we don't have time to fish. We talk about it all the time, so much so that we disgust ourselves! Every once in a while, we DO take off and go.

Its crazy!
