I always call it a fishing rod, never ever a fishing pole.

Anyone agree with me or am I being crazy?

I whole heartedly agree. I cringe when someone calls to get a "pole" made...:nono:

When I think of a fishing pole I think of the straw hat, sitting on a 5 gal. bucket on a highway bridge type of fisherman.
Then again maybe it is one of those rope vs line deals. When you attach the reel it becomes a rod. I don't know.

It's a rod. Call it a pole and you're not using mine.

Sun, couldya run that there string through those there eyelets on that there pole?

When I hear someone refer to it as a pole, I automaticly think of someone who isn't in the fishing "know".Like, if I'm looking on craigslist or elswhere(here for example) If I see an ad that says "pole" I don't even bother opening it. I'm looking for rods ,not poles.

Rod, guide, line: Your on a boat with fishermen.

Pole, eyes, string: Your in a motel with a cheap hooker.

Well, that's what Andy Griffith said;?

To each his own I say. Still, to me personally, a pole means one of these:

Another one that kills me is when people refer to them as "pole holders"

it's a rod and it goes in the rod holder... Done deal

If you guys let that bother you I think you're a little up tight.

It's no different if you are talking to someone about a subject they are knowledgeable about and you use the wrong terminology. Are you all of a sudden an idiot because you're not up on your rocket science lingo?

From now on I'm going to make an effort to call all my rods "poles" just to agrivate you guys.
Seriously, what does it matter?

Mike
