I hate to see this happening. I don't see charter boats as the "enemy" but I see where they are quickly positioning themselves to be. They are fighting to stay in business. I understand that they need to fish more than 2 months a year in order to do that. Why not fight to get themselves included in the commercial TAC instead of the Rec. TAC. By thier own reasoning they are using the fact that they make a living from fishing to obtain a private sector of the recreational TAC. Making a living = commercial right?
Like I said, I hate to see this happening. Divide and conquer. Looks like the dividing has already happened.

listen...if i was a reef fish charter i would be tempted by this as well. they are as you said fighting to stay in business. the problem here is that less than 3% of the reef fish annual landings is done by hook and line fisherman, charter and rec combined. this effort by charter captains to "sector" the rec quota into a for-hire allotment will necessarily come out of that
rec fisherman didn't start this, but we can finish it by letting every one of those captains listed know that they are biting off their nose to spite their face...

Also, Know that only a small portion of charter boat captains and owners actually support that plan. A majority of the supporters are from Destin.

I work in and around Destin on a daily basis. What many folks don't realize is that a lot of the charter boats out of Destin commercial fish also. If they can get a larger portion of the recreational TAC, they end up with the majority of the TAC no matter which side of the fence they are sitting on at the moment.
