Ok Gmack this one's for you buddy!
Fri I wanted to go really bad, had a hard time finding a crew. Called everybody I knew, lot of sandy vagina going around haha. Ended up with another all-star crew. Me, Boomer, and Mitch (a hitch hiker we picked up on the way to Venice). Mitch works with my uncle, never met him before. Mitch is a good dude, he jumped right in cutting pogies and reeling kings and sharks for us. He will be invited again for sure.
Went to where we did well on tuna this time last year. Water was blue and around 63.5 degrees. Chunked hard and it was all "chunk junk". Sharks, kings, and a few bonita. Trolled a little but not hardcore. There was a few wahoo caught in the area. It was usually about an hour after we left the rig. This was puzzling to me at first.
Then I later figured out what the problem was. My good pal Boomer jinxed us but I didn't know it. When I got back to my truck he left a bunch of snacks in the front seat for my trip Sunday. The first pic is what he brought onboard. No doubt in my mind this was the source of our problems . . .
Went back out Sun and left at dawn in a completely different direction. Went out a little ways and hit some blue water. Little choppy in the bluewater. Kept on trucking to the spot. Put out some live baits and bump trolled all around the rig. Nothing.
While trolling the livies I marked fish on one corner. Dropped some jigs into them and was a bunch of blackfin. So we pounded on some blacks for bait and to put SOMETHING in the box. Chunked a bunch of pogies and blackfin chunks never saw the first yella.
Now it was lunch time and the guys wanted a change of pace so we trolled for hoos. Not in the places I would have preferred but places that where on the way home (and can be good for hooters). Nada.
All in all fishing seems to be hit and miss.
Thanks to fellow tht'er anhospog for supplying me with these awesome pics (I took the banana pic and the dock shot with my blackberry).
I'll put some more when I get them.
Tight lines.
