Thinking of heading to VA Beach for the July 4th weekend. What's the fishing like that time of year around the Bridge and offshore?

Here's a PDF that you may want to save.

July has good bottom fishing in the bay with flounder, spot, croaker and cobia.. Offshore is quite far but you can get dolphin, yellowfin, wahoo, amberjack and even and occasional cobia.

This was July 1st.

The Fingers and Hot Dog are 35 - 48 miles. Norfolk Canyon is about 75 -80. Are you bringing your own boat? Chesapeake Light Tower is 13 mile off the beach. If so take a look at these numbers on a mapping program and see if it's within your realm. They're in the bay and offshore.

That is some great info and much appreciated. I will be bringing my boat. Its a 25 Fountain CC. I have 130 gallon fuel so I have to run some numbers to see if offshore is possible. Would love to get into some offshore action as I'm fairly new to all of this. Typically fish Lake Erie which gets nasty alot. I would certainly be prepared and have the proper gear before heading out. Thanks again and any further help is greatly appreciated. Shawn

Shawn,
Keep in touch. If I know of someone going out of my marina, I may be able to hook you up with a buddy boat. You'll need to keep track of the water temps.

Carlos - I'm surprised you didn't scare him off with that pic

Seriously, July is a pretty good time to be fishing in this area.

Tom,
What the hell is wrong with my legs. Besides being attached to the fat belly. Somehow I knew you would chime in. You should stop by the marina for a cup of Joe.

Thanks for posting the fishing calendar and the GPS number links!

This is great information for me. We just bought a house in Cape Charles and I plan to be doing a lot more fishing around VA beach. This information will be a great help as I learn my way around.

On some of those numbers on that site make sure you have a good bathy card on your plotter. Some of the finger and canyon numbers are a bit off but in the area

Hi Mike,

You don't think Jim is going to put pinpoint numbers on his sight?
