I see a bunch of posts with guys selling live pogies up in Mass. Anyone doing this in SE CT? Would love to be able to get live ones even if I can't locate them...

Thanks!

Don't know of anyone selling them in this area. (South Central CT) Most guys catch their own.

Yeah, I just haven't had consistent bunker around me last year and I hate to go out without it. Would be nice to have a backup.

Usually can find Bunker in the Thames river,I work at the Coast Guard Academy and they are all over the place up there.

No doubt that menhaden are the kings of live bait but don't be afraid to give scup a try! I've had some awfully big fish on scup...

Turn your first caught scup loose with a balloon hooked behind dorsal, set to half of bottom depth........ he will follow the school and make short order of getting baits!

If your having trouble catching bunker get up earlier and watch the guys setting the nets. 3:00AM comes early! ;)

Yeah, I did a lot of Scup live-lining last year. I still prefer bunker though. I hear you about getting up at 3am. Those days are difficult as I run a business and can only get out when I can. Niantic River has been good for bunker in years past, but last year was pretty much a bust until pretty late in the season.

Isn't the minimun size for scup 10 1/2 inches? Tough to find enough of them at that size to live line where I am in the sound.

Yes, 10.5". We had an abundance last year on the eastern sound. It got pretty frustrating at times when trolling a TNW snatching my sand worms....I could limit out on Scup in some spots within 15 minutes of getting there. I think they could open the limit or lessen the size a bit as there are just so many around.
