You know how a Snicker’s bar is coated in wonderful rich milk chocolate or a Krispy Kreme glazed donut is coated in some sort of sweet, sticky, delicious coating? Well sometimes electronics need to be coated as well with materials such as acrylic, urethane, silicone, Paraxylylene, epoxy or a lacquer.
Conformal coating is typically used in products intended for use in outdoor environments where heat and moisture are prevalent and is applied in thin layers onto the circuitry to protect against dust, moisture, extreme temperatures and chemicals. It also provides environmental and mechanical protection to significantly extend the life of the components. Besides humidity, conformal coatings provide protection from vibration and a wide variety of contaminants such as vapors, some solvents and salt spray. Coating also prevents damage from rough handling, installation, reduction of mechanical and thermal stress.
Not using conformal coating could result in catastrophic failure of the system and that’s something you probably want to avoid. ASA Electronics uses CRC Plasticote 70 to protect our entire line of JENSEN Marine products so their components will be shielded against the harmful environment. CRC Plasticote 70 is a clear protective lacquer, which is the Universal Protective Film for printed circuit boards and formulated to protect printed circuit boards against creepage and short circuits. The transparent acrylic insulating film is resistant to diluted acids, alkalies, alcohol and humidity. CRC Plasticote 70 resists high temperatures, is drip proof and can be soldered through.
Our conformal coated circuit boards protect your electronics from salt water, condensation and humidity that tends reek havoc on most electronics.
