Made the run.
All we came home with was some blackfin and two YFT. We lost another YFT b/c we double up and tangled up badly . . .
Tuna fishing was real slow that day for most . . .
I don't know how today turned out, we thought about heading back to the "new spot" but after being there Sat night and Sun with nothing but kings and sharks to show for it we headed home early . . .
Got to go to know.

P.S. if i get some pics emailed to me I'll post them up.
Our crew was Fishing Ed, Animal Al, myself, and Buck. We went on Ed's boat. Thanks for the trip Ed!!!

fished Fourchon yesterday looking for wahoo. it was cold, rough, raining, windy, cold,dirty water, windy, and cold. nothing but a few jacks and ribbon fish to show for all the trolling(as well as a lot of green water in the boat) and a few of the endangered red snapper at the one rig we dropped on. Overall it was a crappy day to be on the water. Did i mention that it was cold and windy??
Come on summer....

at least you got out. Neither of my boats have moved since early November... oops, forgot I pulled the tender out, washed it and drug it down to the gas station and pumped $300 into it a few weeks ago so it could sit some more!

We went out again on Friday hoping for more than the kings and sharks that we were blessed with this past Sunday. We spent most of the day trolling and we did a good bit of catching however, the Jack Crevelles were wearing us out. Our first double knockdown was a blackfin and a nice hoo. Next knockdown would be a miss but it was definetly a wahoo bite and spirits were high. That is when the Jack Crevelles took over. Stayed pretty cold all day with a 10 mph east wind and cloudy.

We added a few scamp to the box and headed in. Could not keep the red snapper off the jigs.
PS All you Lake Pontchartrain northshore guys.....Please check out my new restaurant on hwy 21 in Covington. www.jerksislandgrill.com .
Thanks

We were out Friday and it was miserable, they missed the forecast by a mile, with high winds, high seas, rain, etc.
What disturbed me was all of the bait balls that were everywhere but the only thing feeding on them was the birds, no predator fish at all.
A clarificatioin on the grouper regs, THEY ARE OPEN as I read the regs. There has been much discussion on this. Below is a portion of a post from another board where the poster sent an email to NMFS to clear up the issue and the response that he received. ...................
Hello,
Im needing a bit of clarification on grouper fishing/catching/seasons here out of Freeport, Texas
Ive read the above book concerning regulations on catching grouper. However, I just flat cant tell if FOR MY AREA if we can catch grouper right now or if the season is over
Here is my interpretation
For Warsaw, season is open with a limit of 1 per boat.
For Red and Gag Grouper the season is close from 2/1 thru 3/31 EVERYWHERE in federal waters
For
Black, Yellowfin, Scamp, Yellowmouth, Rock Hind, Red Hind, Yellowedge, Misty and Snowy Groupers -- The season is closed from 1/1-4/30 with in the boundaries of
NE=28°51'N, 85° 04'W
SW=28°14'N, 84° 54'W
SE=28° 14'N, 84° 42'W
Which is a long ways from where We fish which is sorta in the area of N28 33.238 W95 07.952
SO, WHAT I THINK IS RIGHT IS---
I can catch 1 Warsaw grouper for the boat, and if we catch a Black, Yellowfin, Scamp, Yellowmouth, Rock Hind, Red Hind, Yellowedge, Misty and Snowy Grouper its ok to keep and bring home to eat because there is no closed season for them in our area of Freeport, Galveston, Matagorda area of Texas. And only length limits and the 4 per person in aggregate of all groupers including the Warsaw will apply.
AM I CORRECT?
Please let me know...
Thank you very much for your time.

Re: Question on Recreational Grouper fishing out of Texas
Jimmy:
Let me clarify, as I believe I misread your interpretation. ALL shallow-water grouper are closed from 2/1 through 3/31 (red, gag, black, yellowfin, scap, yellowmouth, rock hind and red hind).
The area closure ( NE=28°51'N, 85° 04'W - SW=28°14'N, 84° 54'W - SE=28° 14'N, 84° 42'W) from 1/1 through 4/30 is closed to all fishing.
I hope this helps.

No – what are considered shallow-water grouper are red, gag, black, yellowfin, scamp, yellowmouth, rock hind and red hind, regardless of whether they are caught in shallow or deep water. (Shallow-water is a classification)
Federal rules apply if you are nine miles or more offshore for Texas and Florida, and three miles offshore for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. If you will be fishing inside of nine miles, you should check regulations for the state of Texas.

So what does all this and previous pages, messages, emails mean?
Looks to me that its illegal to bring home to eat any of the listed shallow water groupers (red, gag, black, yellowfin, scamp, yellowmouth, rock hind and red hind) till April 1.
I'm just trying to help us understand... hope yall understand that. Be sure and tell your fishing buddies so they wont be illegal bringin the wrong grouper in..

I think insurance policy writers played a hand in writing the federal fishing regs.
