Has anyone had any dealings with WWW.ProperTops.com from Plymouth, Massachusetts?

I have spoken to the owner and he has quoted me a fairly decent price for a hardtop and curtains for my 26' Shamrock. Before I take the trip to his shop in person I thought I'd put the word out.

Thanks,

Ralph

I've heard from people who were looking for fabrication work who mentioned that kid, but have never spoken with anyone who actually had work done by him.

Most people I speak with in the area use Brian at Fastech in Plymouth (www.t-tops.com).

^^^^^^^Fastech as well, brian is a stand up guy!

I have tried contacting the kid from propertops he never returned my calls. that is not a testament to the quality of work, only the quality of buisness.

Fast Tech does a good job if you don't mind waiting for the proper alignment of the stars.

Brian Woods at Fas-tech did my hardtop back in 2004. He did an outstanding job.

Experience is the key to any type of work like that, go with an established company. Cost is not the most important factor.

My Snap-On dealer always used to say "Is price your only consideration" And we all know how expensive Snap-On is

Why is the kid "only" on craigslist? Do you want Hull truth? or what????
I would ask Brian at Fastech why he was terminated.

I have actually had work done at ProperTops. Dave the owner is a really great guy. He built me a custom top at a great price and quick! I did my research on other companies and his designs are incredible. I also have a friend that had a tower done there and what a nice job he did. I dont think that guy gets enough credit. We made friends and the poor guy is just trying to survive doing what he loves and everyone seems to have something to say about him. Do yourself a favor like i did and go down there and see him. Trust me when i say this guy was born to fabricate, and his welds are like a robot did it!

I would also like to add that we all know how the economy is right now,so before you bash him for ''only'' advertising on craigslist think about the costs and whatnot of ADVERTISING. Bottom line is i went to Fastech and got a quote first. That guy was a jerk and his prices are crazy!! His T-top doesnt even compare to what Dave at ProperTops built for me. Dave has been welding and fabricating for almost 20 years, the kid knows his shit!

we all know why he was terminated, because Brian was not paying the poor guy what he was deserved and Dave had ideas for better designs so he started doing tops on his own and Brian couldnt deal with that and still cant 3 years later. Bottom line Propertops does it "PROPER''

Dave at Proper Tops built a sweet t-top for my boat last March, 2009. He had beautiful welds, ( like the person said above - like a robot did it ) a great eye for design and a price that his competitors couldn't touch. I might add he turned the boat around in about a week. You can't beat that! I would absolutely use him again and will continue to refer business to him.

Spanky: What is your association to ProperTops?? You have 4 posts here, and all 4 are pushing this company.

Either you got your top for free, or it came with one hell of a handjob to make you sing the praises this loud

You know there is a lot more more to it than that!!!! Unless you think its OK to be in the shop at 2 AM doing side jobs/starting your own business with someone else's equipment and materials.

The T Top business must be knife edge. Marine Metal Fabricators in Barrington is busy for months. Fastech email and phone are down - out of business or too busy to notice? J&J Marine went under, the shop was bought by Bristol Marine - can't afford them now!. I'm going to see Dave at Propertops tomorrow, but I already liked the phone conversation. Anyone ever worked with Land or Sea in Marston's Mills? That was another good phone call.

Dave at Propertops suggested a thin Starboard-type material for the hard top. Anyone have experience with this?
