These are from the '05 Norfolk Harborfest. Unfortunately, I didn't get shots from the workboat races because I was at the helm for the camera crew. Dem guys can PAHTEE MAN! I especially like the boat with the Chik-Fil-A parody, "C-Fud Duz De Body Gud."

The top several photos were taken at Tylers Beach in Rushmere, VA. From the deadrise runabout on down, the photos were taken on Jones Creek in Rescue, VA. I'm rather proud of the top photos of Captain Colby. I posted them to Wikimedia as public domain. I have since seen them several times in newspapers and on educational websites.

Nice pics. Is the last one rigged for oysters? doesn't look like she is set up for crabbing. I was in SC a few years back and saw an old oyster boat dragging shrimp nets from looked a bit strange an a little unsafe to me.,

The photos of Stephanie Marie were taken on Jones Creek in Rescue, VA. The photos of Virginia were taken at Deep Creek in Newport News, VA. The photos of Barbara J on land were taken at Tylers Beach in Rushmere, VA. The Bunny Hop and Bay Queen were photographed on Jones Creek in Rescue, VA. The last two photos of the cool little deadrise cruiser were taken on the Pagan River in Smithfield, VA.

Yeah, the mast and boom are for deploying patent tongs to harvest oysters. The set up is described at the following link.

^^ If you are referring to the boat shown below, I think it was auctioned. It sat in the boatyard for over a year. The last time I saw it, it was on the lot of an RV dealership. The dealer asked me to make an offer for it as it was about to be towed to an auction house. I haven't seen it since. There was a plaque on the instrument panel that said it was built by Major Marine, Inc. of Battery Park, VA. It appeared to be wood covered with fiberglass inside and out. It was powered with an carburated 200 HP Mercury. It seemed to be a lot of engine for a boat of that size. I'm sure it would have been very fast provided that the water was flat as the hull didn't have much deadrise. I was tempted to buy it for use as an up and down the creek boat, but my wife would have thrown a hissy fit.

Major Marine was a local builder of deadrise workboats. Battery Park is a small community on the Pagan River just outside of Smithfield, VA. The photos date from March 2007. The boat is long gone.

They repowered her to a 300hp JD. Now has an aluminum rear deck cover. I took those pictures that were published in National Fisherman.
Were you working on your Duffy in Suddler's yard?

No I was building a 35 Duffy in my own yard in Milford. She's in Lewes now, still in the water, tog fishing as time/weather permits.

Yes, she was For Sale for about a year. Sold her last November. Had her for sale here on THT but no interest in a real working boat here. Now if it was a 32ft Regulator priced at $150k or a Yellowfin at 250k, I would have been able to sell it pretty quickly. Just the wrong audience here on THT for this type of boat.

Couple that I am fond of,

http://www.compositeyacht.biz/32_compositecustom.html
The smaller blue boat is the 'Get Sum' out of Ocean City. 26' and a boat i'd have a hard time passing up if it were ever for sale. Cabin is standing room only with center wheel but the rear station, beam and general layout of the boat just screams 'lets go fishing!'. Manageable size for inshore work too.

How about it? Mr. Cecil and his boats have earned legend status...
And start looking around and doing a little research, it surprising how many boats started as splashes from existing hulls.. I think you only have to change a hull 10 or 15% and you can call it your own.
In the Markley 46, aesthetically, in my humble opinion anyway, I think they went in the right direction. Love her lines. As much as I admire a Robbins, most seemed to have a little bit low freeboard, for me. But, eye of the beholder.

The Robbins 40' mold was made to make either a charter boat or a work boat.
There is another 40' mold made from a Robbins wooden boat, but it is a foot narrower.
I used to own a wooden Robbins/Marley work boat that was 34'. A lot more free board then the 40' glass boat.

Somewhere. I'll see if I can find them.
It was my understanding that Ben Markley bought the hull from Cecil and finished the boat. It was strictly work boat style. It was powered by a 460 ford. I used it for a couple of years to commercial fish out of and then sold it for what I paid for it.

Friends of ours got what I believe was one of Cecil Robbins last boats before his retirement. From what I recall it was built by Mr. Robbins and his daughter. My friend did all the plumbing as he is a pipe fitter. I went with them to "pick"it up. It was launched in front of his shop which I think was on, or near Henry's Crossroads down below Vienna, Md. Mr Robbins piloted it down the river/creek till we went under a low bridge. On the other side he finished some top works that wouldn't make it under that bridge. It was then turned over to the new owners and we took it for an all day cruise. What a beautiful vessel - they named it "Savor The Bouquet". It was a 40 and was berthed at Taylor's Island for several years. We took many bay trips with them. They took one last voyage to the Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island. It was sold after that - not sure where it is now.

Lodel: I am the proud owner of your friends boat! I bought her in June 2010 from a gentleman in Ridge MD, boat has been very well taken care of and has aged gracefully. He had purchased her as "Rachel Sierra" from a gentleman in Reedville VA in 2006.
I have dated paperwork trail of some of the systems such as the fridge and A/C system your buddy had installed. When I bought her she had 1700 hours on the 1994 3116 Cat, currently about 2700 hours now. I had hoped this was the original engine, any idea what your friend had for power when he bought her?
I have improved some things in the past year, still going strong and recieve plenty of compliments on her. There are two dead saddle tanks I need to have removed. One of the previous owners installed two tanks for a total of 66 gallons in the cabin. Needless to say, in todays world that simply is not enough fuel and the location is not the best.
Anyway, would like to continue conversation and maybe you can help me with a history lesson!
Reds; Also very familiar Robert Meekins... attached is hull #8, very first canopy boat Robert built, she was built in Robert's backyard in 1976 for my father. Boat has been glassed over by Steve in Cambridge, and is in great shape today!

You can get your engine info from Caterpillar. They have the date built, to whom sold and probably when installed and any problems that they have had to take care of. They had the complete info on my Cat, when I had some work done to it this summer.
Robert is a distant cousin of mine.
Nice boat.

Yea THANKS as is yours! Pleased with my Robbins. I tried that already with Alban. They had the basic build date information but, provided not much else. Guess that is a good thing. Trying to find Cat qualified Tech's here is tough. What do you have in yours, 435 - 3208? Boat was built in 1994, engine is a 94 aswell so, assume it is the original engine. Could not believe the lack of hours on it for it's age.
Have not seen Robert for years, been over there a few times and stopped by the shop near Gootee's just have not been able to catch him.
Ironically this boat sits between two Meekins/Markley boats. Noticeable difference in the Markley hull, they do not have the flare that Robert built in his.

N3NFX - Small world regarding the 40 Robbins. Passed this on to the original owners along with info on how to contact you through this site. They were not familiar with THT but are now. They can probably answer any build questions you have as they were on site quite a bit. This boat was their "baby" - they still have log books and photo album from their trips. Hope this helps.
